A CnmnVittee vas also heJd. the Pur-ser of the HonouraMe East India 'Compimy's sliip the Lord Thurlow, Captain John Pale, arrived at tlie India Hotiie with his dispatchcs from the Govcrnments of Madras and Bensjal.

The Lord Thurlow is the first sliip which arrived of the season of 1801. She sailed from Madras on the iSth of October, arrived at the island of St. Helena on the 41h of January, and sailed from thence on the 20th follovvingj with th Georgiana, the arrival of which fiiip been already adviied. The paiTehoers by the Lord Thurlow are, Colonel Mac Neile, General Tolson, Captain Blair, Captain Torre, Lieutenant Lieutenant Watbon, Lieutenant Huxt, Lieutenant Hamilton, Lieutenant Perring, Ensign Poi-lichody, Mr. Brounker, Mr.

Leslie, Mrs.SEWELL.andMr. andMrs. Hughes. The Lord Thurlow has had a remarkably quick passage, havirig Zieen abfent frorn Eugland only eleven months. We Icurn by a letter received from Calcutta by the Lord Thurlow, that the Marquis Wellesj.ey Vas at Monghir on the of September, having lest the Presidency on the 1 jth of August.

His Lordfliip wasexpected to stay at Monghir till scme arrangements Jiad been carried into effect. Monghir is generally made a Kation for part of the Engliih troops, and is only 275 miles North West of Calcutta. We surther learn that it is his Lordiliip's intention to visit all the interiov parts of the piovinces subject to Bengal, and that he means to proceed to Lucknow, in order to make some arrangements with the Naboe of Oude. The palace of the Nabob, therefore, which is seated on a high bank near the Goomty, will receive his Lord-Ihip duringhis continuance at Lucknow. The Swallow packet arrived at Bengal on the zth March 1 801, after having been eighteen months from England in her passage to Canton, and frorn thence to Bengal.

This ves-sel isto go into dock at Bengal. The Earl of Morn-ington packet, Captain George Simpson, arrived at Calcutta on the 181h of October, and was to be.dii-patched for England in September following. The Swallow was to be difpatched soon after the Morn-ington. The Marquis Wellesley, before he lest the fest of the Supreme Government to visu the imerior, appoint-d Peter Speke, Esq. tobe Vice President in Coun-cil at Fort William.

His Lordfhip was conveyed up the river in a yacht, preeeded by the Commander in Chief. pearance, therefore, at the present time, he clearly argues for the conclusion. of the peace, as the price paid for it is a proof how eagerly peace is desired. I submit all this to the j-udgment of your readers, und our Ministers sliall communicate somc more direct Information. The coincidence is certainly wonderful, and the Pax fer orfom will be highly acceptable, although as far as we are cqncerncd, I have some doubts as to the exquisite howcver.the die is caf, and a very flrort time will determine whether our Ministers' -piece is v.

QUEEN ANNE'S SIR, I have solang been a reader of newspapers, and have derived all the knowledge I possess, and all the com- ts I enjoy so frcquently from these vchicles, that to become, at my time of life, a sceptic in their veracity, would be to doom mysclf'to ignorance, and cut oft" all the sources of curious gratisicaiion.

I fhall therefore endeavour, with the reit of readers, to swallow the aecount you gave in your paper of Monday, re-cting one os Qeen Anne's Farthings. I feel my-self bound, in gratitude for sormer favours, to that in the year 1802, farthing sold for fiven hun-ored and guineas." Indeed there are many reasons for wisliing this aecount to be true. It a ldable desire in peo-ple of property to watch over things, and to upon the sage maxim, Take care of the pence, and the pounds will take care of themselves." It will also ftewthat the present age is desirous of cultivatiHg the true taste, of which perhaps a more splendid stance never was or will be giveo and let add, at ltsays something sor the advancement of oratory among the gentlemen of the ky-pnlpit, when one of tte numbercould expatiate so elcquently on the smallest nomination of coin, as to raise it to a 'sum which with Pper management might establifh a trade or maintain a family. Amongthe leiser consequences, indeed, of this af-w, will be a necessary alteration in certain Moto of speceb. We rnust take care how we under- jalue any thing, by saying we would not give firthing ot and recollect that a man, who is not werth a sarthing, may nevertheless have a good deal of money his pocket.

Some iogenious politicians of my acquaintance, how-eTCr, pretend to sind out a scrious meaning in the affair, and look upon the whole story as a plot to re-Prefent to our eneraies abroad the miserable slate of sirances, the scarcity of our current coin, and the amease cjuantity of our papen I know not what "iiiia, gicai. 4uamiy 01 otaer linen ami woolten drapery, men.s and women's mereery, huiiery, 2000 yards of thread laee and edging, 80 new takle cloths, a large collecTion of ladies' and gentlemeii's apparel, new and in good condition, cotton and other bed hangings, window curtains, fliawls, handker -chiefs, taliie and bed. linen, featliex beds, carpets, glail'cs, and a greatvariety of other property.
