Signed by Order of the Houfe, wt 25,1757 IsAAt Norms, Speaker. I fae to the Governor from the Commissioners. Number of the Inhabitants of Hanover Town foip containing an Account of the late Murders committed there by the Indians, and the imminent Danger to which the People are expofed. With what Defign this Let bid before us by your Honour, remains as yet 1 a Matter of Uncertainty, as it was not accompanied with I Pnribance thereof.

Their Requeft is, that their di rt ftreiled Situation may be reprefented to the Governor, and thnt they may obtain fome Afliftance of Men for their Defence And we are of Opinion, the Governor is the only proper Perfon to apply to for Succour in that Cafe, as he is'the Head of the Military Forces in this Government. As Commiflioners," we have no Power to conVntto the Raifmg of a larger Number of Men than is by Law nor can we of that Number command to oro to the Al hitance. ot the mnaoitanrs. 1 ins treinity." It is with Concern we obferve of how little Benefit the Provincial Troops are, in protecting the People, and with inexprcflible Horror we fee the recent Proofs of this Truth for, from numerous Inftances, it is plain, that the Enemy come in between our Forts, deftroy the Inhabitants within Sight of them, and return unmolefted, while oar Men remain inactive in Garrifon and of little Service to the neighbouring Settlements fo.that the Province receives no other Benefit from them than the Protection of the fmall Spots of Ground contained within their feveral Fortifications Whereas, if a proper their Marching and Encampment Befides, tliere will be wanting irnis ana Accoutrements tor the volunteers; 1 moft earneilly therefore recommend it to niake the proper Provilion for thefe feveral Articles otherwife the Confequences will Be fatal to this Province.
