Malcolm Wilson, yesterday beat back an attempt by an insurgent to take the nomination away from him. Couzens garnered 4,928 votes to the 2,697 rolled up by his primary opponent, S.

In winning the GOP nomination for the job he now holds, Couzens carried 11 of the 12 wards in the Westchester city. 2)0(5 roues By SIDNEY KLINE City Controller Abraham Beame, exultant at winning the Democratic nomination for mayor in a four-way race, pledged to his campaign workers in the Hotel Summit last night that an "underdog" fight against the GOP candidate, Rep. John V. Lindsay, wrmlrl also Vi wnn a goal close to his heart.

The third man on the Beame ticket, Mario Pro-caccino, running for controller, hooked up in a head and head dud with Orin Lehman of the Screvane team and narrowly eked out his victory. Unprecedented ticket-splitting for a primary had the lead switching hands into the early hours this morning, with Procaccino at last coming through with a edge. The late tally gave these figures: MAYOR Beame, Screvane, Ryan, O'Dwyer, 28.613. COUNCIL PRESIDENT O'Connor, Moynihan, Hedgeman, Richland, 19,331. CONTROLLER Procaccino, Lehman, 294.024; Dubin, Andrews, 22,722.

The biff surprise of the primary, aside from the complete routing of the Wagner forces, was the strong run of Rep. Ryan. He pulled more than 15 of the total vote and this, combined with nearly 4 going to O'Dwyer, was more than enough to make the difference. The run was the more impressive because the reform Democrats, who went all-out for Wagner in his primary contest in 1961, were split throughout this year's primary campaign. Ryan and O'Dwyer ran substantially ahead of their running mates on the minor tickets.

Ryan was backed up by Melvin Dubin for controller and Anna A. Hedge-m a for Council president. O'Dwyer's entries were William T. Andrews for controller and W. Bernard Richland for Council president.

As winner of the primary, Beame opened up his big guns on Lindsay as "the Park Ave. Congressman from the silk stocking district" who fought for Richard Nixon in 1960 at the same time Beame campaigned for "the late and beloved" President Kennedy. He called on New Yorkers -of whatever political persuasion to "join in this crusade to repel the threatened invasion of City Hall by the party of Gold water and Nixon." He pledged that the Democrats would carry on in the tradition of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Herbert H.

Lehman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Adlai Stevenson, Kennedy, President Johnson and Vice President Humphrey. tion in a statement of congratulations to the man he referred to as "my old friend." Beame took note of that in his victory statement. "Don't be lulled by the hard primaries Democrats have just fought," he said. "This is part of our tradition. "Park Ave.

Congressman" "There is another side to this tradition, which most Republicans envy but cannot understand. The harder we fight to win in our intra-party family squabbles in the primaries, thme more determined we emerge after the primaries to march as one, united against the common foe, the Republican Party." "The victory," said the 5-foot-2 Beame, a fiscal expert, "is sweeter because it was an upset. We were the underdogs and we had to overcome tremendous odds to win. Screvane Pledges Aid "It is somewhat fitting, therefore, that we started as underdogs, and although we have won this battle we find ourselves once again the underdogs in the greater battle that lies ahead. "Let this, then, be our rallying cry 'Repel the City Council President Paul R.
