But women' leaders, discourag ed at their failure to Interest the German women in politics, are afraid the women will not make use of their political power. "German women have lost faith In political parties," said Frau Pint Pfann, leader of the women' organisation of the American sen stste of Hesse, "Consequently, they are not much Interested In politics." In an effort to awakt feminine Interest In the election, women's organizations are Inviting candidate to address their meetings.

Their leader art campaigning vigorously to women to vote regardless of party. But ao far the response has been meagre, Frau Pfanne aays. In apltt of this feminine leth argy, there probably will be quite a few women candidate for par liamentary seats and several may be elected. U.S. Polio Coses Ahead of 1948 CHICAGO, July 38 (AP) Infan tlle paralysis cases In 1949 art running far ahead of 1944 tha second worst polio year In United States history.

An Asataiated Press survey today shewed 8,938 ease In the U.S. through July 27, with 837 pelle death. In 1944 the total for tht same date was 4,179. Totals for 1944 eventually reached 19,029, topped only by 27,383 In 1916. Tht U.S.

public health service re ported the 6,339 cases as ot July 23 this year was 38.4 per cent higher than the 4,580 reported through the same date In 1948 and 1948 was a near record year. The polio appeared to bt gaining strength with the hot weather. Figures showed 1,444 new cases during the week ending July 23. This was an Increase of 47.5 per cent over the same week ot 1948, which had 979. In 1944, there were 915 new cases tor the week ending July 27.

For tht most part the polio up surge appeared to be fairly evenly distributed over the VJS. Only scattered epidemic areas wert reported. At leatt 33 states reported a step up In the polio rate, while eight showed a decline. Nineteen state hava had more than 100 cases this year compared with only seven state above the 100 mark at tht cam time last year. Nearly two third ot the polio case were centred in nine states.

The leaders wert Texas, 1,123: California 708; Arkansas 488; Okla homa 440; New York 353; Missouri 302; Minnesota 286; Michigan 270 and Illinois 259. North Dakota officials reported no epidemic but said the state't 67 cases and four deaths are the high est on record for the date.
