Batchelor is a staff-sergeant in the Fort Garry Horse. At the meeting of the W.A. of St. Mary's Anglican church, held at the home of Mrs. H.

Kershaw, it was unanimously decided to hold, for the sixteenth consecutive year, the annual business meeting at the home of Mrs. G. Chapman, on Jan. 14, 1931. The second whist drive and dance of the season, under the auspices of Social club, was held Friday evening in Charleswood school.

Crowe's The music was furnished by orchestra from Winnipeg. A very enjoyable evening was spent. Refreshments were served and prizes awarded under the convenorship of the president, Mrs. A. Atkinson.

Mary Madgalene Anglican church, assisted by the church choir, will present a Christmas mystery play entitled, "Court of the King" in the parish hall, Dec. 18th. St. Vital Greyhounds (junior) will play their initial hockey game at the Olympic rink Friday evening, when they meet the Monarchs in division. The new concrete road from Carglere ave. to the junction of St. Anne's and St.

Mary's road, constructed in October under the municipal unemployment relief scheme, was opened Friday for the first time. Rev. A. Nixon will conduct the services in St. George's church on Sunday at the usual hours. The topic of the morning service will be "Thing That Ye See," and that of the evening "A Plea for Discipleship." On Monday, Dec.

15, at 2.30 p.m. the Daughters of St. George and St. George's church will hold a Christmas sale of work in the Masonic hall. Transcona branch of the Women's Institute will meet Yale Ave.

church on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2.30 Mre. H. M. Speechley, of p.m.

Winnipeg, will give 8 Christmas message. During the program carols will be sung. Owing to the Transcona Empty Stocking Fund carnival set for Monday, Dec. 15, there will be no rehearsal of the Transcona Community choir. The next practice of this organization is set for Monday, Dec.

22. The regular meeting of the Women's Missionary society of Yale Ave. United church WAS held receatly at the home of Mrs. M. Turriff, when the following slate of officers elected: President, Miss Peake: first vice-president, Mrs.

Darby; second vice-president. Mrs. Scott: secretary, Miss Ruth Shannon; treasurer and pianist, Mrs. B. R.

Greenwood; correspondence secretary, Mrs. J. S. Jackcon; Christian stewardship. Mrs.

J. temperance and mis- proved a popular feature, prizes being won by Miss E. Boore and Gordon Dudley. Excellent dance music was again provided by Earl Cummings and (his popular Merry Makers orchestra. A splendid turn-out of the Seven Oaks' division of St.

John Ambulance was registered at the regular meeting Monday night, which was featured by an address by Rev. F. Glover, brigade chaplain. Rev. Mr.

Glover was presented with a letter, signed by members of the division wishing him every success during his absence from Winnipeg. BROOKLANDS Sunday school will be held in St. David's church. Sunday, at 3 o'clock, and will be in charge of F. Williamson, of St.

Thomas' church. Brooklands Ladies' Social Club will hold a whist drive and dance in the Red school tonight, in aid of The Tribune Empty Stocking Fund. Whist will commence at 8.15 o'clock. At 9 o'clock, dancing will start and the music will be supplied by radio from CNRW Winnipeg. The net proceeds will be given to the fund.

Brooklands Ladies' Social Club held an enjoyable whist drive and dance in the Red school last Saturday evening. The winners at whist were: Mrs. E. Fick, Miss Nuttall, Mrs. F.

Walker, Mrs. F. Escott and George Hanson, Fred Smith, H. Williams and John McLean. Brooklands Ladies' Social Club held their annual meeting and election of officers in the Red school, Tuesday evening.

19, at 8.15 o'clock. A special feature of this recital will be the playlet, "Mother Goose," which will be presented by the juvenile students, all of which are under 11 years of age. Miss Kitty Kropp will also entertain with tap dances, and ensemble music will be rendered by the Aeolian trio, Miss Catherine Rignold, 'cellist; Irene Smith, pianist; Harry Rowland, violinist. The members of the Women's Missionary society of St. James Presbyterian church will be held in the Sunday school hall at 2.30 o'clock on Wednesday, the 17th inst. The regular monthly meeting of the Women's Municipal league will be held in the Berry st, fire hall on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The last meeting of this year of the Ladies' aid of the United church will be held in the lower hall on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock.

Reports of the various branches of the work will be read. There will be the election of officers. The members of the St. James United Church Missionary Society will meet in the lower hall on the afternoon of Wednesday, the 17th, at 2.30 o'clock. The Ladies' aid of St.

James Anglican church will meet in the parish hall on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 2.30 o'clock. The meeting will be devoted to packing hampers for the needy of the parish. will address the Sparing United church C.G.I.T. class on Thursday evening, at 7 o'clock. The Sparling United Boys' club will meet in the gymnasium on Tuesday evening, at 7 o'clock. Anniversary services will be held in Calvin Presbyterian church on Sunday. The morning service will be taken by the pastor, Rev.

David Johnstone. At night the preacher will be Rev. Dr. Frank Baird, moderator of the Presbyterian general assembly. The concert held in connection with the anniversary services of Calvin Presbyterian church, will be held in the church 011 Tuesday evening commencing at 8.15 o'clock.

The evening subject will be "The Story of Jonah -How is It to be Understood This is a sermon on Biblical representation. Bible class and Sunday school will be held at 12.15 p.m.

The Young Women's club of Knox church will meet 0n Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Margaret Torrance, Bond st. A A A A A A Scottish concert was held in Knox church on Thursday, Dec. 11, under the auspices of the Knox church choir. The program was well balanced and extremely well rendered. The artists comprised: Mrs.

Helen Dallas Peter Logan, soloists, and Jean Campbell and Robert Watson, elocutionists. Accompanists were Mrs. J. R. Armer F.

Kingdon. Knox Church Missionary society will meet at the home of Mrs. W. Cruikshanks on Wednesday afternoon. Plans are rapidly being perfected for Transcona's grand effort on behalf of The Tribune Empty StockIng Fund.

More than 500 tickets have been sold, and prizes for the sideshows have been rolling in in appreciative numbers. The function will be held in the Masonic and Legion halls, and two local orchestras will be in attendance. The committee further wish to intimate that any donations may be left at Stills' or Roberts' Drug Stores, or at the local police station. Every possible aid that can be given by the public will be gratefully received. The proceeds of this effort will be evenly divided between The Tribune and local funds.

Proceedings will commence at 7-o'clock on Monday evening, Dec. 15. A splendid concert was given last night in Yale Ave. church by the pupils of Miss Jean Wallace, elocutionist, under the auspices the Cleaners, a young ladies' organization of the church. Local talent augmened the Winnipeg effort, and a fine selection of numbers was presented.

The local church quartette, composed of Jack Shore, Jim Middlehurst, Joe Wright and W. Fanstone, were on hand, the former also contributing a tenor solo. Bert English's humorous boyish numbers were very well received, as were the more serious selections of Eleanor MacInnis, Freda Lupkin, Dorothy Dick, Betty Moore and Phyllis McKibbon. Marjorie Nevens' part in the short play, Afraid," was also well I done. Mrs.

C. Cross, local contralto, contributed splendid numbers, and W. J. Linton, of Winnipeg, was well received in violin selections. Following the concert the party and assistants were entertained by the Gleaners at the home of Mrs.

R. Nevens, Ravelstone when Miss Wallace was presented with a fancy cushion on behalf of the girls. Miss Margaret Underhill, president, made the presentation. On Thursday evening the girls of the First Lutheran church, Transcona, were entertained by the senior group of the Yale Ave. C.G.I.T.

division. The visitors were present regular meeting of the group, and afterward were entertained with games, and were guests at a Christmas party in the church parlor. The function was under the direction of Miss Doris Bleakney, senior leader. STURGEON CREEK. The annual meeting of the Woman's association of the United church was held Thursday.

There meetings of the various organizations in connection with St. Anglican church until after the Christmas season. Divisional Brown Owl Mrs. Blackie, of the Girl Guide association. was a visitor to the meeting of the Neweechewa Brownie pack of Friday evening.

During visit Mrs. Blackie examined varlous members of the pack for proficiency badges. During evening an enrolment ceremony took place, and the following were enrolled as Brownies: Violet McCormack, Irene Poole, Muriel Bessey. Service stars for 100 percent attendance were presented to Glena Boyd, Joan Cowley and Ilys Booker, WEST KILDONAN A meeting of the vestry of 'St. Anne's Anglican church, will be held in the robing room on Monday evening at 8 o'clock.

The Men's Carpet Bowls league will continue their series of games on Tuesday evening. in the St. Anne's parish hall at 8 o'clock. The Y.P.A. of Kildonan United church, will hold their regular meeting in the church basement on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock.

On Friday evening in St. Anne's parish hall, the Sunday school scholars will present a Christmas cananta entitled, "Aladdin of the Wonderful Lamp," commencing at 7.30 o'clock sharp, This cantanta will be repeated for the adults the following Monday, in the same hall at 8 o'clock. The annual meeting and election of officers of the W.A. of St. Anne's will be held in the parish hall on Wednesday afternoonu at 2 o'clock.

A "Turkey Whist Dance," arranged under the combined auspices of the Women's Auxiliary and committee of the West Kildonan branch of Canadian Legion, will be held in Green Brier Inn on Thursday the evening, Dee. 12 play to commence sharp at 8.15 o'clock. Approximately 100 pounds of turkeys are being offered as prizes. Proceeds are in aid of the Legion children's Christmas tree fund. The West Kildonan branch of the Canadian Legion staged their second big whist drive and dance in the Centennial school, Friday ing.

A record high score was made for the Legion series of dances by Mrs. A. Forrest with 163. Other winners were: Mrs. G.

Owen and Mrs. Me. Innes. Gentlemen winners were: F. Davis.

Blue Boy, pet canary at the home of H. R. Mathewson, general passenger agent of the Canadian Pacific Railway, proved the "black horse" in the annual singing contest held by the Western Canada Roller Canary club, this week.

In the picture, Peter Greenall, judge of the contest is merely admonishing the yellow songster for not coming in as a regular entry. When the bird came 8.5 a casual visitor and rolled his troll, the judge gave him a rating of 45, apparently only three points less than the champion. Mr. Greenall apparently knows his birds, for he leaves on Monday to judge canaries as songsters all the way from Omaha through to the west coast and down to Vancouver. Three San Francisco shows- one promoted entirely by the Japanese -are on his schedule.

He not only judges the soloists but can tell what key and how close to perfect harmony quartettes of the feathered songsters get when "teams" compete. Men's club and Young Men's society will hold their corporate communion at this service. Morning service will be at 11. o'clock and Evensong at 7 o'clock. Bible classes and Sunday school will be as usual in the afternoon.

The Girls' auxiliary of St. Thomas' church will hold a sale of work, silver tea, and sale of homecooking i in the Parish hall, on Thursday evening, 7.30 o'clock.
