Ideas for fishing lures, Hildebrandt says, come mainly from fishermen themselves who write letters to the company suggesting a change in a present lure, or plans for a new. one. Some 50 of these' come through the mail unsolicited each year. The Hildebrandt's test the new lures themselves and often experiment with a' new product three or four years before it is marketed. Naming the lure is important, too, and, Hildebrandt says, considerable time is spent picking 'a name that sounds attractive to the fishermen. In addition to sending in ideas, anglers frequently send pictures of their catches along with a word of praise of a Hildebrandt product. Here's a aample from Flor- ida: "It would have been impossible to catch bass in some ol these lakes without this type ol weesdless spinner." Or, from Kansas City: "This lure is. certainly a wonderful fish catcher. Keep up the good work." As members of the Sport Fishing Institute, the Hildebrandte keep abreast of the latest developments in the sport. The institute;, a non-profit organization,,is devoted to the improvement of sport fishing through research and, experimentation. Are there any revolutionary developments ahead in the fishing industry? No, say the Hilde- brandts, but there'll be some new lures. "Now, in 1963 we will sell a new type of lure, the 'Indian Minnow,' which is guaranteed ..."
