SUNDAY, JUNE 10,1962 THE PHAROS-TRIBUNE and LOGANSPQRT PRESS, LOGANSPORT, INDIANA PAGE ELEVEN Families Focus on Father as His Big Day Looms/ June17th Many hours of smoking pleasure ahead for Dad in the fami-' ly's gift of a box of Ms favorite cigars. Lovingly wrapped by daughter is Dad's gift of a two-pipe set, carefully chosen in the shapes he prefers. American families will gather June 17 to pay homage to-Dads and Granddads across the nation in .observance of Father's Day, 1962. . ' The continuing theme, "Juvenile Integrity Starts in the Home" will once again keynote the observance that during the past 52 years has become one of our biggest national celebrations. As all good leaders should, Dad directs by example. Ever on call to meet the minor as well as the major emergencies that arise in family life, Father is'the household trouble shooter, a sturdy anchor in Mie squalls that.beset the lives of youngsters and a rock in the tempests of their adult years Certainly, Father is no longer the dignified patriarch of former years. He has willingly relinquish, ed his stuffy 19th Century attitudes which envisaged him as the "word of the law" with "judge- ment undisputed" and a "don'l ruffle my dignity" attitude. Modern Dads get closer to then kids by doing such undignified things as teaching them how to slide bases, cast a fly or cook over an open fire. Dads with faces as grimy and hands as greasy as their sons' and daughter's can be found -repairing doll carriages, building scooters or crawling about an H-0 train layout. Dad 'spends more time with his children, and not only shares their interests,' but also channels their enthusiasms through wholesome activities to worthwhile goals. How can we express our appreciation to these Dads? 01 course, it should be shown 36! days a year, but human nature being what it is we frequently tenc to forget. As a result when Father's Day rolls around on the 17th The focus is on Father! Already he has proudly donned Mother's gif^of a lounging robe, now admires son's gift of neckties. IN OUR WINDOW..
