SUNDAY, JUNE 10,1962 THE PHAROS-TRIBUNE and LOGANSPORT PRESS, LOGANSP01 r SPORT PAGE THREE Your Gift Can Give a Lift to Dad's Summer Wardrobe Give your Dad or Granddad the gift of comfort and fashion when expressing your sentiments on Father's Day. Science and modern design have now m'ade it possible for Dad to look right and feel right during the warm weather months "ahead in well cut smartly colored suits, shirts, ties, and furnishings. Here are some tips that will help in the selection of gifts of wearables that will delight Dads on their day in June: The "tall look" is the theme in suits. Slim, trim, uncluttered masculine lines enhanced by stripes •and other vertical effects set the trend in the new summer suits. Wide Colnr Range The colors range from medium to dark and one of the leading shades is navy blue—flattering to Daughter shows Dad just how his gift necktie is going to look, which seems to be much to his liking. men of all complexions. Also very smart are the new olive blends- some mixed with blues, others with soft tans or grays. As far as fabrics are concerned, the choice ranges from luxurious blends of mohair or. silk with worsteds, through blends or worsted with man-made fibers, that permit the suits to be put through the entire cycle of a washer-dryer and emerge pressed and ready to wear. All of the same characteristics are available in sport jackets, too. Ranging from pure Tussah silks through all the blends to the automatic washwears, summer sport jackets combine comfort with good fashion and practicality. A new note of the season is the specially coordinated lightweight sport jackets and slacks. Made of the same fabrics, they frequently combine patterned jackets and solid color slacks— the slacks picking up the ground shade of the patterns. Slacks of all kinds make dandy gifts for the man of the hour, too. These can run the gamut from luxuriously silky gabardines, through cool tropical weights, to rough and ready washables. Continuing with the trend set last year, summer shirts for D-ads and Granddads qorrie in all the wanted collar styles from low-set vanishing bands to dressy tabs- all in a choice of half or long sleeves. Men go for the new soft toned colors in business shirts. They are equally as correct for business wear as whites. Colors also show soil less and look fresher as the day progresses. . Wash-wear constructions continues to reach new heights each year. Father's Day neckwear gifts should be given with the tastes of for Father's Day only the best wtil do ALL DADS LOVE ;he wearer in mind. Although many styles are currently in vogue, each man has his own favorites and gifts should be tailored to -his tastes. However, the single dominant theme in neckwear this summer will be stripes. Stripes are among the favorite patterns of most'men, so it simply reduces to the selection of his favorite colors. Daughter gifts Dad with "what it takes" for a lifetime of happy shaves in an electric shp, ver. Help Dad to Ride a Hobby There are some things that men must do and others that Dhey like lo do—a good point to bear in mind when selecting a gift for Dad or Granddad on Father's Day. More and more men find surcease from the cares- and worries of the workaday world by engaging in hobbies. According to doctors and psychologists" (not to mention the hobbyists themselves) this is a highly commendable and worthwhile practice. They point out that hobbies are relaxing for the • tense, stimulating for the bored and act, as 'balm for both the mind and body, Of cou'rse,_. the range frf hobbies is almost aCwide as the numbers of men who engage in them. One of the oldest hobbies is still one of pastimes that is . in practice .in all parts of the civilized world) is that of stamp collecting. Some men go for "historic" col- lection, others prefer rare issues, unusual shapes, off-colors, sec- 'tional or national specialties and many others. It is.said that there are as many types of collections as there, are of stamp issues. Numismatists go the same route via 'coins. Coin in dated series, ancient mints, rare coins, commemorative issues and even historic medals please this group. Of course, there are accessories such ah albums, magnifying glasses, books and catalogues as well as the stamps and coins to gift these collectors. Following the lead of presidents, prime ministers and other public notables—many l)ads and Granddads have become weekend artists. They find that talent is nice to have—tout not essential in expressing their views on paper and canvas. Drawing equipment, oil paints, water colors, brushes, easels, pal- ots, palette-knives, canvas and canvas boards—all make fine gifts for the part-time artists. Model builders go for the kits that produce ships, motor cars, airplanes awl any number of things not Un; least of which are miniature railroads. The many, many other-hobbies include hi-fi, "ham" radios and, of couurse, outdoor cookery. HOW Alii'WJT A BELT? The new sjmrls belts come in a wide array o:: styles and colors.
