Come Alive With the Spartans ahead 37-29, with 53 seconds remaining in the third quarter the Pretz suddenly came alive.

With Mel Wright, Wayne Fawver and Gary Stearns eading the way they quickly overcame the Sycamore lead. Stearns had entered the game only seconds with Gary Wagner and Ken an attempt by Coach Ron Norman to bolster the Pretz and to find a winning combination. The three juniors did just that. It was the turning point of the game and the Pretz went on to outscore he Spartans in the last quarter, 16-8 and win the ball game. Byron is tied for third place in the Route 72 Conference with Winnebago.

Both clubs show 4-2 league marks. Mount Morris, which surprised Mount Carroll last week, 55-54, is in a two-way tie for second place in the Blackhawk Conference with Oregon. Brian Schelling, sen- 'or forward, has been the Mound- big gun this year, averaging 18 points a game. Leaf River, showing a 4-4 season mark, holds down fifth place the eight-team Route 72 loop with a 3-3 record. The Demons, aided by the transfer of 6-4 Sheryl Mennenga, have not found the ight combination yet.

The Colts, well rested after inching the Western Conference four weeks ago, are point favorites over the Giants who had to beat Cleveland three times to Richardson Will Not Play In Davis Cup By WILL GRIMSLEY Associated Press Sports Writer BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Perry Jones said Saturday night Barry MacKay and Alex 01- medo would play the opening singes against Australia in the Davis challenge round Monday. In a hurriedly called late evening news conference, he also announced Ham Richardson, the No.

No Players Present Chief counsel Jack Kramer was 3n hand when the announcement made. No players were present. "My decision on this matter was dictated by the physical side of Jones said. "I felt that Richardson would be unable to play op-flight tennis in intense tropical heat for three days." Richardson said he was deeply shocked by the announcement. He criticized-Jones' method of mak- ng the selection.

'No Courage' "He did not have the courage tell us," Richardson declared, adding that Jones did not show any conviction. "As a result, our team has been a state of strain not knowing A-ho would play and unable to point to the Australians. 'This is my last Davis Cup campaign," Richardson added. "This is my last year of big- ime tennis." He repeated that if was incom- rehensible to him that he should win the crown. Eastern Conference Big Crowd With the help of the weatherman's friendly forecast of partly cloudy and mild, a near-capacity crowd of 70,000 plus will storm Yankee Stadium.

This will be a happy sight for the players, 'as well as the owners, as the hired help get 70 per cent of the loot, including $200,000 for television rights. All reserved and box seats held by the Giant office were sold early in the week. However, about 500 turned back by Baltimore went on sale at the Stadium this morning. Approximately 10,000 bleacher and standing room tickets will be available Sunday morning. $4,600 Share Each winning share should be worth about $4,600 and each loser about $3,000 if there is a sellout.

Each would be a record, breaking last year's marks of $4,295 and $2,750 for Detroit and Cleveland. New York area fans who are not at the Stadium will have to depend on the radio as the network (NBC) telecast will be blacked out in New York and a 75-mile surrounding area. In addition to the prestige of a first league title and the riches be shared by the winners, the Colts are anxious to get even with the Giants who handed them their first defeat 24-21, Nov. 9. In case of a tie at the end of regulation play, they will continue until one team scores on a sudden- death basis.
