One of the visitors--who are on a 30-day State Department tour of American agriculture facilities explained that the soybean processing plant in which he works has a capacity about half as great as the local plant and'employs 600 persons.

The local plant employs only 45 persons, including office personnel. Polyethelene used more for foods By SAM DAWSON AP Business News Analyst The men also were impressed the efficiency and productivity of American farms. One explained that it takes 18 to 20 fuHtime employes to farm a cooperative farm in his country. They also pointed out that the per acre yields of their corn arid bean varieties does not compare with those of this country. Tremendous progress, however, has been made in this direction in recent years, they pointed out.

Glenn Pogeler, manager of the North Iowa Cooperative Processing Assn. plant, took the visitors on a of the local plant. The men were particularly interested in the kind of equipment used. Most party members commenting oh Romney's appearance on the big-time political circuit figured he will, have to get himself elected governor of Michigan before he can show his wares in the 1964 presidential nomination bidding. There didn't seem to be much doubt that Romney, president of NEW YORK (AP)-Food in the bag--whether to boil or to store in bulk in freezers--may play a bigger part in your life in the new year. It will if today's plans of both the food packaging industry and the makers of polethylene work out on schedule.

They are confident of expansion of the already fast growing boil-in- the-bag sales. They also count on selling you on the idea of frozen vegetables in family-size proportions--but not in solid blocks--packaged in these filmy bags. This way food can be taken from the package to fit your individual need at the moment, with the remainder going back in the freezer. Noting the rapidly increasing use of bags of prepared foods that can be heated 'in boiling water, the U.S. Industrial Chemicals predicts this will help push total polyethylene sales in 1962 by 10 to 15 per cent.

The Modern Foods Council says 100 million boil-in-the-bag units were sold this year. There are some 100 food items so packaged by about 40 food processors. They predict hopefully that sales will Informality reigns in diplomacy By JAMES MARLOW Associated Press News Analyst 'WASHINGTON (AP) Presi dent Kennedy has picked up wha President informal, personal, and even family touch in foreign affairs-and added some touches oE his own. His most glittering addition has been the decision to let his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, make a goodwill trip to India and Pakistan next month. Even i Khrushchev eems taken by the idea of mak- ig use of somebody besides ambassadors in foreign dealings.

He sent his son-in-law, Alexei Adzhubei, editor of Izvestia, over here last November to interview Kennedy. Last week Adzhubei came back for a three-hour luncheon at the White House. President- Truman, except at the beginning of his presidency, stayed pretty much to home, as did most of his predecessors except for the trips of Presidents Roosevelt and Wilson as a result of war. Eisenhower in his first year traveled to Canada, Mexico am Bermuda on official business. Kennedy traveled even more in bis first 12 months: to Canada, Bermuda, England, France, Austria (to see Khrushchev), Colombia, and Venezuela.

Eisenhower did much more traveling later in his presidency. Kennedy is a cinch to do more too. his first year Eisenhower A used his family in foreign affairs, sending his brother, Dr. Milton Eisenhower, to Latin America on a fact-finding mission. Also in 1953 he sent Vice President Richard M.

Nixon on a goodwill visit to Asia. Kennedy in his first year sent Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson on a goodwill journey to Asia. Now the president's brother, Atty. Gen.

Robert F. Kennedy, is making a 26-day goodwill trip through Asia and Europe. This month the President's youngest brother, Edward M. Kennedy, is to go to Poland. But this has been described as a private trip with no arrangements for meeting the Communist leaders there.

Earlier last year the President sent both brothers, Edward and Robert, to Africa on separate missions: His brotherTin-law, Sargent Shriver, visited South America in behalf of the Peace Corps he heads. Sisters Jean Smith and Eunice Shriver took a vacation behind the Iron Curtain but managed to have tea with the wife of Yugoslavia's President Tito. 300 million units before American Motors, would depart from tile Willkie pattern to seek the governorship this year. Willkie never stood for public office before he won the 1940 GOP presidential nomination. He was registered as a Democrat as late as 1937.

Such party pros as Sen. Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania, once the national Republican chairman, did not i Romney's reach 1965. The Food and Drug Administration permits the use of polyethylene film under. prescribed safety conditions. Uses range from production of packaging materials and containers to equipment intended for use in producing processing, transporting or holding food.

Polyethylene makers -and food processors say this ruling has opened the door now to many possible new uses. Example: Coatings for milk cartons and bakery trays. Other developments reported include lining for cartons to hold liquids, and formed containers with tear tapes. Formed Container Corp. asserts it can offer price advantages for The Kennedy family is a big one and before the President's term is up the various members of it ought to cover, a lot of international real estate.

St. Louis Park, chances two years from now if he can muster the support of a substantial majority of Michigan voters this year, "I think we may well see the Wendell Willkie thing all over again if Romney can get by the barrier of getting himself elected governor of Michigan," Scott said. Sen. Kenneth B.

Keating of York said "he thought Romney' "made a good impression" on Republicans in Congress. "If he is elected governor this year, he is bound to be a contender in 1964," Keating said. Sen. Jack Miller, R-Iowa, said he wasn't particularly pleased with Romney's observation on a television interview program that he was nonpartisan until he was forced to identify himself as a Republican to run es a delegate to the Michigan Constitutional Convention. Miller said Romney will remove himself' from the Willkie 'class if the polyethylene packs as against older forms of food containers.

This is seconded by the Flexible Packaging Division of Continental Can Co. which supplies polyethylene film. Money spent in early research in the polyethylene packaging for food by Seeman Bros, has paid off well, its chairman, John B. Fowler says. A pioneer in the field was its Seabrook Farms division with a campaign to get housewives to buy boii-in-the-bag foods.

Birdseye and many other food packagers are marketing fruits and vegetables in the new packs. Fowler says the boil-in-the-bag principle makes possible packing special diets for hospital or home use and providing restaurants with ready entrees. Food firms like Armour, General Foods and Seeman Bros, are working hard now to convince restaurant owners to join the parade in numbers and volume of usage. FINED $300 NORTHWOOD cWles D.
