15 DAILY NEWS, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1921. PROSPECTS CUT BACKS AND CLOSE UPS THIS AND THAT IN THE THEATRE REAL WILD WEST STAMPEDE SHOWN IN HART'S NEW FILM ALL ABOUT PICKLES, JACK PICKFORD AND MR. 'LEFTY' FLYNN Jack Pickford's Love Assets Many in Fikn IIIS ASSETS IN" LOVE wer many, but, as far as material prospects were concerned, pretty bad, pretty bad! At least, that's what the stern papa of one lovely Caroline muttered to Jaclo Pickford during the first reel or "Just Out of College." concerning the beauteous princess and the poor but honest lad who was given some impossible task to do before he might know the joy of having her heart and hand bestowed on him. George Hernandez, a corpulent and excitable body, plays the 121 version of the stern king father. He gives an excellent imitation of a man just about to succumb to a fit of apoplexy whenever a sign advertising "Bingo Pickles" strikes him, so to speak, in the optic.

You see, he's a pickle king himself, and his throne begins to totter when his prospective son-in-law, in company with the ingenious Flynn aforesaid, projects a formidable rival on the market. You are not surprised when young. Ed Swinger, "just out of college!" succeeds in wresting from him some thousands of dollars and his lovely daughter. Mollie Malone, round and in genuous of countenance a trifle like Marjorie Daw is a satisfactory although much in the back ground heroine. Oh, and you'll be glad to know that'Irene Rich, the joy of many a Will Rogers film, has a small part in it.

W. jJ Ferguson, of Griffith's "Dream ptreet," was callboy at the Ford Theatre on the night that i Wilkes Booth shot President Lin coln, and says he is willing to swear on his oath that the assassin did not say "Sic semper tyrannis!" Maybej Son read "The Man Who" when it appeared just a little while ago in one of our weekly best selling magazines. It was, you the story of a man in love with a girl who said "she'd walk over red-hot ploughshares" to marry a man who'd done something extraordinarily big in the world. jWell, Bert Lytell is to have tha role the distraught hero "when Metro makes the tale into a picture. James Young will direct Marion Davies's next photoplay, the title of which is still veiled in mystery.

This time he's a sergeant of the Royal Mounted Police, famed, for never giving up a quest, and his search for a murderer takes him into the hills of Wyoming. He arrives just in time to wit-j ness with us one of those colorful festivals of the West known as "stampedes." Take my word for it, inside the corrals of this movie wild West show you see some of the best riding that has ever been put on the screen. And instead of making all the girls, who are watching proceedings from the grand stand, wear leather leggins and a fringed riding skirt the director has had the good sense to clothe them in their best white Sunday-go-to-meetins dresses. All of which shows that he has probably seen a real Western Fourth of July celebration himself and knows what it looks like. Eva Novak plays the role of the murderer's little sister, and she's nice and plump and pretty but she really ought to learn to do her hair more artistically.

The murderer, who, of course, was entirely justified in what he did, is Antrim Short, youthful, open-faced, snub-nosed and an Al rider. There's a villain who hs more than ordinarily villainous Leo Willis is his name. They all do welL Altogether, "O'Malley of the Mounted" is a good Western film. has Jack Pickfcrd, who has at last acquired an air of grown' up-ncss, and it has an enormously tall young man whose name on the program is M. B. (Lefty) Flynn and wha does unconsciously funny things with his long arms ana legs whenever he within reach of the camera. The gentleman at the most adjacent- desk tells me, in response to timid inquiry, that he is a foot ball star this Lefty. Whatever his various talents, he a marvelous type for the silent drama, and I hope that Goldwyn will ncour-age him.

George Ade, pausing a moment in the writing of his fables, furnished the not startlingly original legem! in which young Mr. Pick-ford, seriously enamored of Miss Molly Malone, makes a man-sized fortune within thirty- days thus outwitting Ker wicked father and all the rest of it! It is, you see, the modern version of that many-sided fairy tale DEBUT Creator of "Butterfly" in Title Role Here 4T ROSINA STOKCHIO makes her debut as Cio-Cio San tonight at the Manhattan Opera House in the Chicago Opera Company's production of "Madame Butterfly."
