Paymaster and Honorary Captain Long, of the Army Fay Department, has been granted the honorary rank of Major, in recognition of his services in Egypt. Private Chas Johnson, 1st Battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, was found dead outside his barrack room on Saturday morning last at daybreak. The deceased was quartered the upper story of the building at Richmond Barracks, and it 13 conjectured that he rose during the night, probably if his sleep, opened one of the windows of the room, and, iallintr through, was killed. Captain Stone, of the Liverpool Regiment, has been promoted to the rank of Major. Captain Barges, Army Pay Department, will resume duty in Camp on Monday from absence on leave. The Koyal Engineer Department in Camp will make the quarterly inspection of the Station Hospital in Newbridge Barracks at 10 a.m. on Mon-dy. The Army Signallers of the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment and 2nd Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment will parade at 10 a on Monday for practice, under the directions of the Brigade Instructor. The news of the death of Colonel Burnaby and Major Carrnichael at Abul Klea has caused a widespread feeling of regret in Camp and Newbridge. Lieutenant Colonel Murray, of the 2nd Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment, has been appointed Musketry Commandant in Camp, vice Major Levin, 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. The 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and the 2nd Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment have been ordered to detail two officers each corps to attend as members of a district court-martial ordered to assemble in Camp on Monday morning.

In the case of Keogh, the case was adjourned during his good behaviour. Edward Connor, charged by Sergeant beanlau voth stealing a quantity of manure, was sentence! to three months imprisonment. The increasing demand for British soldiers in India, the prospects of another campaign in Afghanistan, and the disturbing influences at work in South Africa all point to a probable large withdrawal from the home commands, in which those of Ireland must largely share. I am informed on credible authority that the reduction of the forces on the other side of St George's Channel is contemplated to the extent of some 3,000 or more men of all arms. Orders have been issued to several regiments to hold themselves in readiness for foreign service.

If the anticipated demands for Egypt should arise, the troops at Malta would be drawn upon, their places being filled up by regiments at home.
