26--Son Mateo THE TIMES Wednesday, April 6, 1977 Bob Foster STORY OF JESUS DOES WELL IN THE RATINGS Television PUBLIC NOTICE PUBLIC NOTICE PUBLIC NOTICE SMney P. Defied. Field. DeOoH, Hepfwn For NBC it was sort of an up and down week. "Jesus of Nazereth, Part was the second- highest rated show of the week, only .4 behind "Laverne and Shirley." "Captain and Kings," the second run of the "Best Seller" novel, was the lowest-rated show of the week.

In fact, this is the lowest rating that any novel for television has received. ABC continued to dominate the ratings for the 13th consecutive week. That, according to an ABC analyst, is the greatest number of weeks consecutive, that is in the last 10 years for a network to be number one. "Jesus of Nazareth" had a 32.2 rating, with a 50 per cent share of the audience. "The Oscar Awards" seen on ABC wound up in fourth place with a 31 rating the lowest in the 24-year history of the telecasts.

Despite the success of the biblical story on NBC and the revival of "Hawaii Five-0" as a contender in the top 10, ABC had six out of the top 10 shows for the week. "Eight Is Enough" and "Brady Bunch" both did well in the ratings as did "Three's Company." All three are on the network on a trial basis. Here are the top 20 shows as announced Tuesday by A.C. Nielsen: 1 Laverne and Shirley (ABC); 2 Jesus of Nazareth (NBC); 3 Happy Days (ABC); 4 Oscar Awards (ABC): 5 -Barney Miller (ABC); 6 I (CBS); 7 Three's Company (ABC); 8 Hawaii Five-0 (CBS); 9 Barnaby Jones (CBS); 10 Welcome Back, Hotter (ABC). 11 Wednesday Night Movie "Chisum" (CBS); 12 What's Happening? (ABC); 13 Carol Burnett Show (CBS); 14 Eight Is Enough (ABC); 15 60 Minutes; 16 The Jeffersons (CBS); 17 Perry Como Special (ABC); 18 Mnude (CBS); 19 Mitzi Gaynor Special (CBS); 20 Tie: All In The Family (CBS); Charlie's Angels (ABC).

David Niven is to host "The Million Dollar Movies," a look on "The Big Event," at 12 of the biggest moneymaklng films ever. Among the shows to be featured will be "Jaws," "The Godfather," "The Sound of Music," and "Gone With The Wind." Olivia De Havilland, the last surviving member of the cast of GWTW, will make an appearance. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," as produced by the BBC, will be seen on NBC Saturday Night at the Movies" on May 28. This is one of the features made for the current exchange agreement between NBC and BBC. The new script will be based entirely upon the original story by Victor Hugo.

The BBC starts showing "Roots" this week. According to word from London the network is being cagey about how it will be played. It Is known that it will be shown for three nights, in 90-mlnute segments, but when the remaining three episodes will be shown was not revealed just to keep the competition off base. ON MAY 22 NBC will show "The Story of Princess Upon a Time Is Now," in which her film career and her romance with Prince Rainier will be covered in some detail. A friend just returned from a two-week visit to London called early this week to ask me where all that "good" television that we see on PBS is when you go to England.

"I have never seen such dull and stuffy television. When I discovered that the number-one show on British television was 'This Is Your Life' I was appalled," he told me. The only good shows he saw were "Starsky and Hutch," "High Chaparral" the British consider this the best western series ever made Waltons," "Kojak" a big favorite "The Rockford Files," "The Wonderful World of Disney," "Charlie's Angels" "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Little House on the Prairie," "Dan August" in its seventh repeat cycle "Emergency" and "Rich Man, Poor Man." The British love the soap opera type of shows. In addition to a few daytime series on both BBC and ITV the soap opera creeps into prime time. "Upstairs, Downstairs" is considered that type of shbw in England, and so jlwas "The Forsyte Saga.
