New 'Hit' Role for Stunt Man Milan Smith, toll Wooded Sioux Indian and a veteran Hollywood stuntman, drove the winner of the second race yesterday, at Bay Meadows for his first sulky score in California. '45-year-old native of Wagner, South Dakota, began driving harness just a couple of months ago and he had one prior winner in Louisville, Ken- launching his career at the current Meadows meeting. Stormy Defiance was the steed Smith drove to victory yesterday and that was the same horse he won his first race with in the bluegrass country. The five-year-old gelding is Fort Defiance, which sounds a name out of an old cowboy and -Indian flicker! Smith has worked 'as a stunt man on such television series as Wagon Train, Rawhide and Big Valley. He is- a good friend of Jay Silverheels, famed as the Indian friend of the Lone Ranger.

In posting his initial California triumph, Smith had Stormy Defiance up close in -the early going, taking, command on the far turn and then holding off Andy's Jake by a half length. Stonmy Defiance paid $6.40 to win completed a $28.20 daily double started byFraniscan in the first. Smith became interested -in Clay, Champ Sigii Today harness horses 'four, years, ago, Fanfare but delayed his driving debut until fail while learning the rudiments of the game. And he agrees it is much easier sitting in. a sulky behind a horse falling off one after being "hit" by a shot fired by that old Indian adversary, John Wayne.

Orbit Man, owned by David, Fran and Rick Sterman of Park Forest, Illinois, scored an easy featured Hillsdale Pace. Taking command from Bal- macraig shortly after entering the stretch, the six-year-old son of Robert Morris quickly drew out.
