Civil Service Board Hears Salary Pleas REDWOOD CITY--County department heads and employe representatives appeared for several hours yesterday before the county civil service commission here to amplify written requests for salary and classification adjustments in addition to an expected per cent across-the-board pay hike. The requests ranged from that made by Jay Hartman, employe union spokesman, who said he wanted a $35 monthly pay raise for all and an additional $20 monthly for police and fire personnel, to a request by Dr. Harold Chope, health and welfare head, who wanted extra consideration of the fast-growing facilities he heads, such as Crystal Springs home, which started as a nursing home for aged and has developed into a hospital-like rehabilitation center. Others speaking included Sheriff Earl B. Whitmore, District Attorney Keith Sorenson, Assessor Ralph Woodman; County Clerk John Bruning, veterans' service head Floyd Granger, director of public construction and maintenance Henry Tarratt, and parks and recreation head Ralph Shaw.

Paul McCarthy, speaking for the employes' association asked a step and a half increase instead of the one step offered tentatively. A delegation of physical therapists and another of dietitians also were among the audience. There has been no general wage hike since 1957. The meeting was the third of a review series. Powell, 20, a boat builder of 1245 Chilco street, Menlo Park, was arrested lere early today on charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors in furnishing them with alcoholic beverages. Deputies stopped his car and lound four East Pajo Alto boys, ranging from 13 to 15 years had been drinking out of a bottle of wine found in the vehicle.

Deputies reported they stopped car after they noticed it driv- ng erratically in the vicinity of Woodside road and Alameda de las Pulgas. They said Powell admitted sicking up the boys, who were utch-hiking in front of a Palo Alto theatre, and driving to Woodside where he purchased the wine. He admitted, police said, that all four boys had some of the wine to drink. Bruno Barber Shoots Himself SAN BRUNO--William Ventura 33, of 500 Fourth avenue, owner of a barber shop here, was admit ted to Peninsula hospital early today after a .25 caliber pistol he was carrying apparently acciden tally discharged in a bar on San Mateo avenue, and wounded him in the shoulder, police say. He was reported in fair condition at the hospital.

R. C. Man Dies Of Heart Attack REDWOOD CITY Members of a Redwood City fire department resuscitator squad failed in an effort to revive Lewis Anthony Schott, 37, of 813 Canyon road, early today, after he suffered an apparent heart attack. Schott's wife, Barbara, told Deputy Coroner Charles Zimmerman that her husband awoke shortly after 6 a.m. and complained of a pain in his chest.

She said although he had been complaining of stomach pains recently, he had not gone to a doctor. In addition to his wife, Schott is survived by four children, his parents, and three brothers. -Funeral services are pending at the Layng Tinney mortuary. Local Cancer Aide On TV This Monday Mrs. Grace Hedge, president of the San Mateo County Cancer society, will appear on a Cancer society television show on channel 2 Monday at 10 a.

Mrs. Hedge will speak on services offered by the Cancer society in San Mateo county and elsewhere in the state. She was the wife of Edwin Brooks of San Mateo. The Rev. B. Jean Clark of the Episcopal church of the Transfiguration of San Mateo will officiate at services to be conducted at the Patterson and O'Connell mortu- firy. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial park in Colma.

FRAMPTON SAN BRUNO--Private services will be held Monday afternoon from San Bruno chapel for Miss Nell Frampton, 74, of 198 Acacia avenue who died yesterday at Peninsula hospital from injuries received when she was struck by an automobile April 8 in San Bruno. She lived here for eight years and owned and operated the Frampton Beauty salon in San Francisco for 45 years. Miss Frampton is survived by the following nephews and nieces: Warren Everett of Berkeley; Mrs. Helen Glau of Fontana; Mrs. Elaine Thompson of San Diego; Edgar P.

Frampton of Kansas City, and Harrison E. Frampton of Oakland. Monday's services will be officiated by Mrs. Buell Swanson, Christian Science reader. Interment will be in Olivet cemetery.

BERTRAM S. CARROLL Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. for Bertram S. Carroll, 58, of 1516 York street, San Mateo, who died Thursday at a local hotel of a heart attack. He was a radio and television technician.
