I In municipal court yesterday.

Staab's court-appointed attorney, Roy Alley, told Judge Frank Comi sich that he had advised his cli- ent to plead not guilty. i "But he has certain emotions about this case," Alley said, "and does not wish to follow this ad. vice." "1 advise you strongly," Judge Comaich told him. "to follow the advice of your attorney." 1 After a whispered conference I with Alley. Staab indicated he was ready to plead.

i "Guilty." he said. That drew an exclamation from I Sally Stanford, who has befriend I ed Staab and has given him a job at her Valhalla night club in Sausalito. "Oh. Lord," she said in a voice loud enough to be heard through out the courtroom. Judge Comaich looked up and 1 scowled but said nothing.

i Out of court Miss Stanford ex plained why she was so upset. i. "You should never plead gufltj to anything." she said. Alley said he thought he could acquit Staab or at least get the charge reduced to petty theft. He pointed out that the complaining winess has indicated he does no want to prosecute, which woulf make a conviction unlikely if th 1 case went to trial.

"1 just couldn't say I was no guilty," Staab said, "when I'm guilty." Judge Comaich certified him ti i superior court for sentencing.
