LOUIS KOLB, 63 Blackhawks' doctor, orthopedic surgeon By Lynette Kalsnes fence," his wife said. He picked up injured players at the airport, took calls at all hours, and cheered as boisterously as any fan, said his wife, Judy. After 31 years of practice as an orthopedic surgeon and sports physician, Dr. Kolb retired in December, with plans to travel, take classes and provide medical care for the needy through a program such as Doctors Without Borders. Kolb, 63, died Sunday, April 15, at Rush-PresbyterianSt. Luke's Medical Center from complications of a hereditary blood vessel disorder. Payton, 75, the Peace Corps' first woman and black director, died Wednesday at her Washington home of a heart attack.

Ms. Payton was named head of the volunteer organization by President Jimmy Carter in 1977. Before resigning in 1978 over policy differences, she focused on minority recruitment. Ms. Payton was retired from Howard University, where she was director of counseling services.
