8 Section 2 Chicago Tribune, Thursday, August 20, 1992 NW Obituaries KOBLENZ FALKINBURG CharityAnnouncements Richard Bong, ex-Midlothian teacher By William Recktenwald Richard Bong taught science, health and physical education for 35 years in Midlothian elementary schools before he retired in 1986. Mr. Bong, a resident of Calumet City, died Tuesday in St. Margaret Medical Center, Hammond, at age 65. Bom in the Albany Park neighborhood on the North Side, Mr.

Bong was raised on the city's Southeast Side before joining the Navy near the end of World War II. After military service Mr. Bong graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island and then began teaching for School District 143 in Midlothian. "He loved teaching and he loved working with children," said his son, Robert. "He also volunteered to coach the basketball team." Mr.

Bong was active in Republican politics in Calumet City, where he lived and served as a precinct captain. He ran unsuccessfully for alderman in 1973. During the summer of 1971 Mr. Bong served as the director of parks and recreation for the fledgling Calumet Memorial Park District. For 16 years Mr.

Bong sold fur niture at the House of Casual Living in Oak Lawn, during his summer vacations. He also worked part time as the manager of the Shakey's Pizza Store in Calumet City. Mr. Bong was a past president of the South Cook County Elementary School Association. In addition to his son Robert, Mr.

Bong is survived by his wife, Patricia; two other sons, Rutch-erdand Randall; a brother, a sister, and a granddaughter. There will be no visitation and plans for a memorial service are pending.
