A I Bv BOB FOSTER; Ken Murray, one of the really great names in show business, came back to television last night. The fact a the 30-minute segment seemed less than 15 minutes is a good indication that Murray was his usual enjoyable self. However, a young chimpanzee, which insisted or stepping on Murray's lines while he attempted to make in a "jungle scene," almost stole the show. This typical Hollywood jungle scene, which included plenty of beautiful jungle lasses, topped the show. The scene included Hollingsworth, whose mother has been charged with being indiscreet i 835,000 belonging to her employer.

Young Miss Holllingsworth didn't need her mama's ill-gotten gains, for it was apparent she could stand on her own two lovely gams. To kick off the show, Jimmy Wakely, a i street cowboy, showed up on the program to wish Ken and his gang good luck on their new series. Laurie Anders, who dressed for the occasion in a sarong, a-la La- rnour, proved her talents. She is a pretty good comedienne, but, more important, she is very easy on the eyes, regardless of the costume. Marie Wilson showed up to wish her old boss a lot of luck and exchanged some well written lines intended to show Miss Wilson's intellect.

The only mayor in the United States to become a television star, Fletcher Bowron of Los Angeles showed up to wish a good luck and welcome him back to Hollywood after Ihree years in New York. The good mayor brought along a straight man, Lieut. Gov. Goodwin Knight. San Mateo's Bill Edwards, working the announcer's chore, dirt a highly acceptable job on the opening and closing, but a state of nervousness almost ruined a commercial.

Bill has the ability. As soon as he can discard his nerves he'll be one of the top boys in the business. To kick off his series next week Alan showed up, and as usual, in just a few words was able to gather himself a a i of laughs. "Time to Smile" should be called "Time to for this show i i will add much to the Sunday night, laugh parade. Murray is back and we're all glad.

The half-hour format seems to fit Murray better a his former 60-minute shows done from New York. Next week Alan Young takes over the "Time to Smile' 1 segment. If he is able to develop as many old-fashioned belly laughs with as much ease as Murray this series should soon be one of TV's top- rated shows. FIRST EDUCATIONAL STATION California's first educational TV station, owned by the Hancock Foundation of the University of Southern California, will take the air in the next few days on channel 28. It will be interesting to see just what type of programming they are able to come up with.

Inasmuch as this station is a UHF channel and there are very few UHF sets in the L. A. area the audience is bound to be small. In this connection the deadline for educational channels is drawing near and the other seven channels in the state have not been spoken for. Channel nine, requested by the bay area educational television group, needs more cash and unless I this is to be found in the next 90 days or so it will mean no educational station for this area.

After the June 2 deadline the channel will be open for hearing among commercial broadcasters. We un- a couple of big commercial operators are standing by, waiting to drop their applications in the hopper come June 3. Vermont Fanners Predict Weather MONTPELIl Vt. IIP) Vermont farmers have several "surefire" ways of predicting the length and severity of winter: the pancreas of a butchered pig is long and fat when slaughtered before Christmas the winter will be long and cold. If the moon shines through the cracks of your barn on Christmas eve that means a long, hard winter.

If your corn has a hard husk that means a bad winter. You're to expect an easy winter if the ground was soft in December. OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS in the WANT ADS! Last night he was introduced on the "Toast of the Town" and we could not help but think what a wonderful job he had done keeping his youthful appearance. During World War II, Ben, a lieutenant colonel in the air force public relations office in London, for a time was our commanding officer. In those days we could not help but admire his ability to stay young. Not only was he young in appearance but in his point of view. On our TV screen last night he didn't appear to have added any years.

Ben and his wife, Bebe Daniels, are still great favorites of the British and are heard freqently on BBC. His prime job at the moment, understand, is to scout United States TV for the day when commercial television starts in the British Isles. This great day is set for sometime early next year.
