312-735-7521 Former SEC attorney Melville Benton Bowen By Kenan Heise Melville Benton Bowen 65, a retired partner in the Oak Brook law firm of Fitzsimmons, Roberts, Bowen Paine, was past chairman of the Corporate Law Committee of the Du Page County Bar Association. A resident of Aurora, he died in his home Sunday. "He loved his work in the field of law and, many people would agree, he was rather brilliant," said his wife, Marion. "There are probably only two hands full of lawyers who are real experts in securities law and, I believe, other attorneys would say he was one. He was a loving husband and father of a family that stayed very close." From 1958 to 1967, Mr.

Bowen was the chief enforcement attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission's Midwest regional office. In that position, he oversaw the attorneys and legal staff who handled SEC civil trials and administrative proceedings in a ninestate area. He was a partner in several Chicago law firms from 1967 until 1982. And then for two years, he was head of the Civil Division of the Du Page County State's Attorney's Office. Mr.

Bowen taught corporate finance at Chicago-Kent College of Law, and he was a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors, besides his wife, include six sons, Kevin, Dennis, Stephen, Michael, Joseph and Thomas; two daughters, Mary Vuillaume and Ellen Riggio; and nine grandchildren. Dick Lawrence, 66; was host of WNIB weekly radio show By Kenan Heise Dick Lawrence, 66, host of the weekly Dick Lawrence Revue on Saturday nights on WNIB and WNIZ in Zion, was also a writer and vintage music historian who had earlier programs featuring the 1920s, vaudeville and the big bands. A resident of Evanston, he died March 20 in St.

Francis Hospital in that suburb. His programs featured commentary and often music that had not been heard for many years. They represented, he once wrote, "audio archeology, a restoration of antique His historical efforts provided, he said, "intimate glimpses into the lives of plain people who populate a timeless obscurity somehow related to our own." Mr. Lawrence broke into radio at the age of 18 and served as a producer, director and announcer for stations WBEZ, WAAS and WIND. He also wrote for many popular radio personalities, including Arthur Godfrey, Danny Thomas, Arlene Francis and Groucho Marx.

During the Korean War, he worked on film and broadcast productions for the Army Department of Public Information. He subsequently wrote and produced the nationally syndicated "1920s Programs" that could be heard locally on WXFM. In the 1960s, he won the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company Award for outstanding achievement for a syndicated feature for the National Safety Council. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Larsen and Tracy Vancura; and two grandsons. There will be no services.
