He was a partner in several Chicago law firms from 1967 until 1982. And then for two years, he was head of the Civil Division of the Du Page County State's Attorney's Office. Mr. Bowen taught corporate finance at Chicago-Kent College of Law, and he was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors, besides his wife, include six sons, Kevin, Dennis, Stephen, Michael, Joseph and Thomas; two daughters, Mary Vuillaume and Ellen Riggio; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Villa Park. Mass will be said at 10 a.m.

Thursday in St. Pius Catholic Church, Madison and Westmore Avenues, Lombard. By Kenan Heise Melville Benton Bowen 65, a retired partner in the Oak Brook law firm of Fitzsimmons, Roberts, Bowen Paine, was past chairman of the Corporate Law Committee of the Du Page County Bar Association. A resident of Aurora, he died in his home Sunday. "He loved his work in the field of law and, many people would agree, he was rather brilliant," said his wife, Marion.

"There are probably only two hands full of lawyers who are real experts in secunties law and, I believe, other attorneys would say he was one. He was a loving husband and father of a large family that stayed very close." From 1958 to 1967, Mr. Bowen was the chief enforcement attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission's Midwest regional office.
