Players assume the roles of numerous Soviet factions, including the KGB, military and Communist parties, and attempt to push or bluff their ways to victory and the Soviet presidency. Includes 108 playing cards and a short rulebook.

Game actions include purges, crises and other random events. This is a simpler, cheaper version of Avalon Hill's popular Kremlin game. Easily learned and good for family play, Red Empire is a bargain. Space Marine, Games Workshop, $48. Space Marine is a game of tactical ground combat set in Games Workshop's popular Adeptus Titanicus universe (and may be combined with that game).

Its striking components include more than 400 plastic pieces, data cards, model buildings and a host of supporting play aids. It is moderately complex and designed for two or more players. Space Marine is essentially a World War II tactical land combat game with a science fiction theme, and borrows concepts from many games on that topic. It comes with a lot of tiny plastic pieces and is not designed for small children. Talisman City, Games Workshop, $19.

Games Workshop has released another supplement to its Talisman fantasy board game series. Talisman City includes a hardback city map, more than 100 adventure and spell cards and other play aids. It also adds new character types and provides players with the chance for gain at the cost of proportionate risk. It expands the adventures and characters available to fans of this game. Talisman City cannot be played alone; Talisman is required to play the game.

Twilight 2000, Game Designers Workshop, $20. GDW has recently released the second edition of its popular Twilight 2000 role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic near future. Players assume the roles of U.S. soldiers (and many other characters) stranded in a devastated Europe as they try to prosper, pillage or merely survive, the second edition uses a slightly modified rating system for character skills and also changes a few of the skill names. Most Importantly, the combat system has been significantly improved.

The new edition is compatible with earlier adventures with only minor changes. Twilight 2000 is one of the more interesting post-nuclear role-playing games around. A gamesmaster is required. city at 50 meters per hex. Players command the four assaulting Roman legions or the numerous Jewish factions defending the city.

This game is a complex study of ancient siege warfare with rules including siege engines, morale and melee. It Is designed for experienced players with a lot of time on their hands and beginners should stay away from this one. Siege of Jerusalem is, however, one of the best games available on ancient warfare. It is moderately suited for solitaire play and easily adaptable for teams. World War II, TSR, $40.

This strategic level game of European warfare In Work) War II is a thorough reworking, expansion and redevelopment of SPI's title from the early 1980s. Two beautiful maps and 1,200 counters highlight an impressive collection of components. Counters represent armor and infantry units, aircraft and ships. The game encompasses the entire scope of the European war, including land and naval combat, strategic warfare and diplomacy. Relatively complex and lengthy (but less so than its main competitors, Work) in Flames and Avalon Hill's Third Reich), World War II is a solid contribution to the many games on this subject.

Players command subs, ships and aircraft and randomly draw cards that allow them to attack their opponents and defend their own fleets. Numerous random events and surprises are included. The game is best played with more than two players. Play time is less than 90 minutes. One only wishes that the rules were more clearly written.

The company recently released a supplement entitled Modem Naval Battles II. It includes additional ships and new scenarios assigning players specific missions. Imperium is GDW's re-release of its science fiction combat game.

The game involves interstellar conflict between the expanding Earth forces and the established but somewhat decadent Imperium. The high-quality components include a hard map, 350 counters and moderately complex rules. Counters are individual space ships and ground units. Designed for two players, a game may be played in two or three hours. This new release has only slight changes from the first version, Including minor changes to the map and some rewritten rules.

Imperium was very popular when first released and, although the game system may be a little dated, is a good value for the money if you don't already own the first edition. Legends of the Lost Realm, Avalon HID, $40. Legends of the Lost Realm is a computer role-playing game. The solitaire computer player creates a party of adventuring fantasy characters and their characteristics as he goes off on his computer quest. The rules are written to disclose as little as possible about the adventure to the player, so there are plenty of surprises.

The game includes a rule book, spell list, and two 3.5-inch floppy disks. The game Is designed to run on a MAC Plus computer with 1 meg of memory and may be played from either floppy disks or installed on the hard drive. Myth Fortunes, Mayfair Games, $25. Myth Fortunes is a boardgame for two to six players based on Robert Lynn Aspirin's light-hearted M.Y.T.H. Inc.

fantasy novels. Relatively simple to play, players assume the roles of characters In the novels as they attempt to outwit and outsmart their opponents in the chaotic M.Y.T.H. Inc. universe. The game comes with a hardback game board, dice and playing tokens, and 144 character and encounter cards.
