31, 1971 or when consistent with national economic policies. 4 ') i 1 i CO 3 CO tu JO Long Overdue Honor A EXHIBITION of portraits and sketches by Bernita Lundy is currently attracting attention at the headquarters of the Call-, fornia Historical Society, 2090 Jackson Street, San Francisco. Miss Lundy was born in Oakland, the daughter of the Rev. J. 'Wilson Lundy, pastor of Stockton's First Presbyterian Church and later the Howard Presbyterian Church in San Francisco.

When she was 14, Miss Lundy was hired by the Stockton Mail to do a series of drawings of the famous Axell murder trial, a newspaper tribute that attests to the talent she displayed at an early age. Miss Lundy studied at the Frederick Meyer Art School in Berkeley under Perham Nahl, with the gifted San Francisco artist Eva Withrow, and attended the San Francisco Art Institute in the 1920s where she worked with Lee Randolph and Spencer Macky. Follwing this, she opened a studio in the old Heine Building. Among the commissions she received included portraits of Giuseppe Cada- nesso; Dr. Samuel H.

Buteau, chief surgeon at Merritt Hospital: Mary de Neale Morgan of Carmel; and Col. William C. Webb, last U.S. Army Mrs. Harvey Lyon will pay tribute to Joaquin Miller and his 'Mights' at an Alameda County Historical Society dinner Nov.

She presently conducts craft classes at the Senior Citizens Center of the San Francisco Maritime Museum. Henrietta Perry at the society's recent directors meeting. Mrs. Perry resigned to take up residence in Iowa. Dr. Conmy is also Director of Historical Research for the Native Sons of the Golden West, and State Historian for the Knights of Columbus.

Presiding at the Nov. 18 dinner meeting will be Superior Judge John S. Cooper who is president of the society. speaker of the evening will be Eleanor Richards Lyons (Mrs. Har- Lyon), a native daughter of California, civic leader, and Woman of the Year, She will pay tribute to Joaquin Miller, the Poet of the Sierra.

The 7:30 p.m. dinner session is scheduled for the Berkeley Elks Club at 2018 Allston Way in Berkeley. Paid reservations should be made no later than Nov. 15. Send your check for reservation payable to the Alameda County Historical Society to William H.
