THIRTY-TWO TAPPING DM THE Breaking Records Easy For Champion Carolina Breaking records was a matter of course lor the NCAA championship University of North Carolina basketball team and its all-Ameriean, Lennie Rosenbluth. Seven individual season records were bettered with Rosenbluth getting six and Pete Brennan the other. As a team, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and. national chamjnnn Tar Heels broke three marks and came dose to others. The big record flie undefeated team of Frank McGuire was Hie 32 consecutive victories.

Four single game records fell and one tied, Rosenbluth figuring in three of these. Final statistics show Rosenbluth as the club's leading scorer with an average an eyelash shy of 28 points per game, coming out-to 27.968, a UNC record. Brennan finished second with 14.7, Tommy Kearns 12.8, Joe Quigg 10.3 and Bob Cunningham 7.3 to round out the starting five. Brennan's record was for total rebounds in a season, as the handsome Brooklymte picked off 332 for an average of 10.3. The old record was 314 by Bud iMaddie in 1953.

Rosenblulh turned out to be the team's best shot, with 30o of 631 attempts for 48.3 percent, another record. His 376 free throws attempted and 285 free throws made were also new marks. The 895 points rounded out Rosie's season record-busting performances. UNC's 43.1 percent accuracy from the floor and 70 1 from the free-throw line both established new standards The 2537 total points bettered the 2014 of 1953 The Tar Heels averaged 79.3 for the 32 games, just under the 799 record of last year. Single game records by the magnificent Rosenbluth were 47 points against Furman in the opener and his 20 field in that game.

He scored 17 field goals against N. C. State one game to tie his osvn record in that free throws provided the two team sinqle game records, the 43 made against State and 54 attempts aaainst Duke. Rosenblulh's 895 points rounded out his three-year UIVC career-with a total of 2,045, putting him in the select company of basketball's greatest scorefs, and, of course establishing a new UNC record in that department In winning all of their games, lhe mighty Tar Heels caught the imagination of fans everywhere, playing before estimated auarter of a million fans.
