"Whether they liked it or not, they knew it was my music. I remember the first record I bought 'Hound by Elvis Presley, in 1956. I took it to kindergarten and made the teacher play it before I would take a nap. I knew that rock and roll was changing my life because that was the first time I wanted to take a nap with a girl," he jokes. I' ogelberg's debut I ZT album, "Home Free," I was released in 1972 LI and wound up going gold (selling more than 500,000 copies).

The 1974 fol-lowup, "Souvenirs," sold more than a million copies. So did 1975s "Captured Angel," 1977's "Nether Lands," 1978's "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" (a collaboration with jazz fusion flutist Tim Weis-berg), 1981's "The Innocent Age," and a "Greatest Hits" collection released in 1982. "Windows and Walls," released in 1984, only went gold, and 1985's "High Mountain Snows" a country-bluegrass album with a lineup of guest artists including Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman and Chris Hillman became Fogelberg's first release that didn't qualify for precious metal status. "Actually, 'High Mountain Snows' got pretty darn close to going gold," says Fogelberg. "It did a lot better than we expected; bluegrass music is never going to be as successful as pop.

Basically, it was just something fun to do, a departure to keep me sane. I've always loved that kind of music, and to me, the album was a complete success. "But nobody should come to my show expecting to hear bluegrass," he adds quickly. "I'm not doing any of that with this band. This is definitely going to be a rock show more up, more fun, more visually exciting than anything I've done in the past.

"Obviously, the hit ballads are going to be there, but what's exciting to me is that for the first time, I'll be performing them with a rock band. There'll be a few acoustic solo segments, too, because people have come to expect those and they enjoy them. But mostly, the show feels like summer and rock and JULY 81-22 WHITNEY HOUSTON wfspecai gum JONATHAN BUTLER JULY 24 PETER GABRIEL wipeciH gumt YOUSSOU VH1 pretentt JULY 25 CLASSIC SUPERFEST JULY 31 OAK RIDGE BOYS Kjpocm gumt DAN SEALS AUGUST 1 STARSHIP wspwiai gurai CUTTINO CREW AUGUST 4 DAVID SANBORN AUGUST 7-8 ANITA BAKER AUGUST 12 KENNY LOGGINS AUGUST 14 Showtim 730 ECHO AND THE BUNAIYMEN NEW ORDER 9unt GENE LOVES JEZEBEL AUGUST 15 CROSBY, STILLS NASH wspecial guost THE FABULOUS THUNOERBIRDS AUGUST 19 READY FOR THE WORLD THE JETS 1 di-jiro Imm CANCELLED!
