udlovldeo Here are the absolute, absolute latest computer games By Steven Kosek rTT I nn was just two weeks ago that we ran our annual games roundup df in these pages, but real-time clock that ticks away onscreen as you race to complete your assignment Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum. Activision, $39.95 for the Commodore 64128; $49.95 for the IBM PC and Apple II. This fantasy role-playing adventure has long been available for the Apple II, but it's news all over again for Commodore 64 and IBM PC owners. The game lets you create a party of six adventurers and lead them into a three-dimensional landscape' where they'll cross oceans, climb mountains, explore dungeons and fight the gruesome inhabitants of Varn. In all, there are 50 areas to explore, with more than 13,000 locations.

An elaborate combat system includes 94 magic spells for use against the more than 200 monsters youll encounter in your quest for glory. somehow that event has had little effect on the flood of new computer games into my office. They just keep right on coming. So in the spirit of the holidays, here's yet another look at the absolute latest in electronic enter- tainment: Trust and Betrayal: The Legacy of Siboot Mindscape, Apple Macintosh (512K. RAM required), $49.95.

This extremely engaging game created by Chris Crawford, author of the highly acclaimed Balance of Power, is one of the few computer games of recent vintage that I'd be willing to call innovative. It is a simulation of the society on Kira, the moon of a distant plan- et, where seven species live in a on a mission to stop the evil scientist Sludge Vohaul. If you fail, hordes of genetically engineered door-to-door salesman will descend on your planet and they won't take no for an answer. Demon Stalkers. Electronic Arts, $29.95, Commodore 64128.

This arcade adventure can be played by one person, but it also lets two players cooperate to explore more than 100 levels of dungeon mazes. Each level of the dungeon has different goals and different obstacles, which grow more complex and difficult as you make your way to the bottom. Search for magic scrolls, treasure chests, amulets and food. Destroy all ghosts, mages, rats and dervishes. When you reach the final level, you must battle Calvrak in a special arcade sequence.

The program also includes a construction set for creating your own dungeon levels. Have a question about home computing? If you manage that feat, you can try your hand at Escape from Singe's Castle, in which you seek your fortune in gold and attempt to slay the Lizard King. Seventeen action scenes require you to swing on ropes over a fiery chasm, battle supernatural forces, dodge boulders and balls of ice, survive a swirling whirlpool and perform other feats of joystick magic. 'Border Zone. Infocom, $34.95 for Commodore 64128; $39.95 for Apple II, IBM PC and Macintosh. Written by Marc Blanc, the pioneer of text adventures who created Zork and Deadline, this interactive novel is divided into three "chapters." In each, you take the role of one of three main characters who become intertwined in an assassination plot: an American businessman, a CIA operative and a KGB agent Tension is heightened by a i i STOP IN FOR YOUR CiFT WITH THSS AO colony cut off from its mother world.

Lacking a common language, they must communicate in a telepathic language represented onscreen by various icons. Your role is to negotiate, gossip and collude with six other contenders for the role of Spiritual Shepherd. Dragon's Lair. Electronic Arts, $24.95, Commodore 64128. The original videodisc arcade game is now available in an adaptation that contains two adventures on a double-sided disk.

You play the hero, Dirk the Daring, in both.
