Twenty Logansport, Indiana, Pharos-Tribune SEVEN KILLED ON HIGHWAYS IN FIVE iDAYS By United Press International Two more pedestrians deaths •were added to Indiana's 1962 traffic fatality toll Wednesday, raising to seven the number' of persons killed in that manner in a five-day period. The latest deaths raised the year's total to at least 391 compared with 249 this time last year. •James Strange, 23, Indianapolis, was killed Wednesday night by a hit-run car which jumped a curb as the driver sped away from the scene of a fight on an Indianapolis street. ' Thi; car was found abandoned several blocks away, rammed against a tree. Police picked, up Robert Jones, 35, Indianapolis, and slated him for a court appearance as suspected driver of the car which killed Strange. Earlier in the day, Kenneth Beed, 65, Covington, was killec while working as a flagman directing traffic for a construction company on a road project near Enos. Reed was struck by a car trying to pass; a truck he hac flagged down. . The car driver was identified as William Ratcliff, 68, Gary. It was the secorjd death in two days of persons working at highway construction project sites. On Tuesday, Kelsie Tetrick, 60, Vicks- )urg, was killed by a pickup truck j as he worked with a State Highway Department crew near Lin- .on. . • That same day, a 6-year-old Bartholomew County girl was dlled by a car as she ran across a road to board a school bus, and during the weekend three of the five deaths recorded were p trians.
