On Feb. 8, 1587, Mary, Queen of Scots, was beheaded after being accused of plotting to kill England's Queen Elizabeth I. In 1693, a charter was granted for the College of William and Mary at Williamsburg, Va.

In 1837, in the only time the Senate has chosen the vice president, Richard Mentor Johnson was selected after no candidate received a majority of electoral votes. In 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated in Washington. In 1924, the first execution by lethal gas took place in the United States at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City. In 1940, the Nazis shot every 10th person in two Polish villages near Warsaw in reprisal for the deaths of two German soldiers. Chemist, Nobel laureate Donald MacCorquodale By Kenan Heise Donald William MacCorquodale, 87, an internationally famous biochemist, the 1943 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his previous work on the isolation and synthesis of Vitamin K.

From 1942 to 1963 he headed the biochmical research at Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago. Services for Mr. MacCorquodale, a resident of Winnetka, will be private. Burial will be in the church yard of the Winnetka Congregational Church. He died at home Wednesday.

A native of Chicago, Mr. MacCorquodale was born in 1898. His parents, Archibald and Isabel, had come to Chicago from Scotland in 1893 and his father went to work for the Chicago publisher A.C. McClurg Co. Mr.

MacCorquodale's initial interest was architecture and he worked through school in the office of architect Louis Sullivan. He attended the University of Illinois where he chose the field of biochemistry, studying under Dr. Roger Adams. After teaching one year at the University of Tennessee, he went to the University of Wisconsin, where he did research on Vitamin and where he rehis Ph.D. Although took extensive medical studies, he decided against a medical degree because an internship would slow his research.

He took a position at St. Louis University School of Medicine, where he was a professor and researcher for 10 years. At the time, Vitamin had been long recognized as an excellent clotting agent, especially helpful for women in childbirth and after operations such as tonsilectomies. Scientists, however, did not know how to isolate and synthesize it so it would be available in adequate supply. He worked with a team of BLESSUM Norman F.

Mr. Gould, of Evanston, died Wednesday in his home. He taught German at New Trier and was adviser for junior boys. He is survived by his father, John; and a brother. Richard L.

Daniels A memorial service for Richard L. Daniels, 73, former English teacher and personnel director for Proviso high schools, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church of Melrose Park, 1112 N. 9th in the suburb. Mr.

Daniels, a Westchester resident, died Wednesday in Marathon, while visiting a daughter there. He retired in 1973 after serving for five years as personnel director for the Proviso high schools in Maywood and Hillside. For 30 years before that, except for U.S. Navy service in the Pacific during World War II, he was an English teacher at Proviso East High School, Maywood. In 1947, Mr.

Daniels founded the Suburban Veterans Chorus, composed of war veterans. He served as its director until 1983. He also served as choir director of First Presbyteran Church of Melrose Park for many years before he retired in 1982. Mr. Daniels is survived by 5 daughters, Patricia Llerandi, Sue Swift, Pam Cottrall, Ginger Sayer and Ellen Sheridan; a son, Richard L.

Jr; 14 grandchildren: a brother; and a sister Howard B. Ritman Services for Howard B. Ritman, 80, founder of Chicago's Mayfair Construction and former resident of Chicago's North Side, will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday in the chapel at 3019 W. Peterson Ave.

Mr. Ritman died Thursday in Phoenix, where he had lived recently. Mr. Ritman was president and chief executive officer of Mayfair, 5660 N. Jersey until KOEHLER Leonard C.

"We, his family, were proud of the Nobel said his son, Donald. "But he wanted to downplay it, feeling other work he had done was equally important.

Almost all of the things Abbott Laboratories did for over 20 years went through his hands." In 1942 he had joined Abbott Laboratories. There he worked on the newly discovered penicillin, penicillin salts, blood plasma and steroids. He was involved in the early cultivation in this country of penicillin. At the time of his retirement in 1963, Abbott Laboratories honored him for his advancement of the medical sciences and the prestige of the company through his work. Survivors, besides his son, include his wife, Marjorie Merry; a daughter, Judith Elaine Greenspan; two grandchildren; and a brother, Archibald.

Malczyk Mass for Mary T. Malczyk, 68, a former school crossing guard, will be said at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, 5900 W. Barry Ave.

Mrs. Malczyk died Friday in her Northwest Side home. She served as a crossing guard at Belmont and Austin Avenues for more than 20 years until she retired five years ago. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two sons, William and Rev. Joseph Malczyk; three grandchildren; three sisters; and a brother.

Bernard A. Kubiak Mass for Bernard A. Kubiak, 63, of Oak Lawn, will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Linus Catholic Church, 10300 S.

Lawler Oak Lawn. Kubiak, formerly of the South Side, died Wednesday in Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's ical Center. He worked as a majorappliance salesman at the Montgomery Ward Co. store in Evergreen Park after retiring in 1977 as a manager after 20 years with Singer Co.

Mr. Kubiak was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth. O'BRIEN Dr. Daniel P.
