Dramatic music effects are brought to lovers of Negro spirituals, English Madrigal church classics and hymns. The choir will sing the 17th century carol, "Praise Ye the Lord," as one of its featured numbers. An unusual arrangement of Walter Schumann's When the Saints Go Marching In, with Mel White as narrator, has caused favorable comment across the nation. For several years the choir has made Edward Grieg's "Pod's Son Has Made Me Free" their testimony of God's love to men everywhere. The program will begin at 8 p.m.

No admission charge is made. The concert is open to the public. Cut Budget To The Bone Lawrence HARRISBURG (UPI) Gov. David L. Lawrence has ordered that 1961-62 budget requests be cut to the bone.

In a memo to heads of departments, boards and commissions, Lawrence said no new taxes are expected and it appears "very little" additional funds will be available. "Because of the economic situation of the Commonwealth, it will be of the utmost necessity to practice' strictest economies possible without curtailing essential services to the people of the state during the remainder of the 1959-61 biennium and during 1961- The governor said requests for expanded or new programs must be kept within the fiscal framework outlined in the memo. By LYLE C. WILSON United Press International WASHINGTON (UPI) --It is difficult to believe that Sen.

Lyndon B. Johnson (D-Tex.) can be nominated for President if Northern Negroes and labor leaders-as advertised--do actually hold a veto power over a Democractic National Convention. Johnson's strategists tend to minimize the opposition of Negroes and of labor leaders to their candidate. There is considerable evidence, however, that the opposition is there. Or, anyway, that some of the significant spokesmen for these two powerful pressure groups oppose Johnson.

Roy Wilkins of the National Association For The Advancement KIWANIS OPEN CONVENTION MIAMI BEACH (UPI) The 45th annual Kiwanis international convention opened Monday with an address by Albert J. Tully, international president, to 15,000 delegates at Convention Hall. WEDNESDAY ONLY--ALL DAY LIND HARDWARE North McKean Kittanning a higher level of citizenship but that if members of that race are guaranteed the right to vote, hey can voe themselves onward and upward. ADA apparently did not think that argument made much sense. So, anyway, the Negroes and the Democratic left wing must be counted against Johnson until it is proven otherwise.

Labor Against Johnson The score of organized labor against Johnson is that he is publicly committed to effective regulatory legislation to proect Americans against improper labor practices." Johnson voted for the Taft-Hartley Act and for other regulatory legislation previous to that. He voed for he Labor Reform Act of 1959, as the Democratic Party also finds Johnson unsuitable. This, also, is strange. ADA Anti-Johnson The left wingers are polarized in Americans For Democratic Action (ADA). ADA deplores Johnson's Senate leadership although his performance has been widely applauded, so much so that there is substance for the claim that Johnson is the most able man in the Democratic Party.

Stranger than the opposition of ADA, however, is the opposition of the Negroes. There are few, if any, dissenters from the belief that Senate Democratic leader Johnson was more responsible than any other man for recent congressional enactment of two civil rights acts, the first in 80 years. You might expect that record would have made some powerful friends for Johnson among Negro leaders. Perhaps it did. The most noise, however, is being made by Negro spokesmen such as Wilkins.

ADA awarded Johnson no merit badge for his civil rights performance. It holds the efforts of a Johnson-led congress to assure civil rights to Negroes to be too Of Colored. People (NAACP) finds did all of the senatorial aspirants Johnson unsuitable. This is, i the Democratic presidential deed, very strange. The left wing nomination.

The Senate vote was or New Deal-Pair Deal element of 95-to-2. It has been the Democratic habit to, demand in its recent 'platforms the repeal of the Taft- Harley Act. The record is clear by now that a majority of American voters do not want repeal. On the contrary, the majority apparently decided in 1959 that Taft- Harley was not strong enough. If organized labor intends to keep the Taft-Hartley repea plank in the Democratic platform the labor politicians will have to prevent Johnson's nomination.

He could not rim on a platform con taining such a plank. Lawrence Issues Safe Driving Plea Governor David L.
