Lynn Redgrave is really on a roll "Teachers Only" is the wan comedy series that debuts at 9:30 tonight on NBC, the premiere's only attribute being Redgrave herself. She is a good, versatile actress who seems drawn toward series that yield no artistic promise and, in the case of "Teachers Only," no comedic payoff, either.

A host of familiar figures inhabit this piece of sitco-mania created by executive producer Aaron Ruben. Redgrave plays a compassionate high school English teacher who gets emotionally involved in her students' problems. Tonight she tries to avoid becoming a surrogate parent to a student whose parents have separated. Redgrave manages to bring a little intelligence to this, but creatively and in terms of the material at her disposal, she is an actress all dolled up with no place to go. Meanwhile, Norman Fell is the classic stereotype as the irascible but lovable principal, Mr.

Cooper.
