Virginia Fox Zanuck, a former silent-film actress and the widow of Hollywood movie tycoon Darryl Zanuck, has died at her home, a family spokesman said Thursday. Mrs.

Zanuck, 75, died from a lung infection complicated emphysema, said spokesman Tom Shelley. She had been ill for about a year, he said. Born Virginia Fox in Charleston, she came to Los Angeles with her mother in 1919. At 4-foot-9, she was the tiniest Mack Sennett bathing beauty in silent films. Later she became Buster Keaton's leading lady in the comedies "The Haunted richest and "Divorce for Convenience." SHE MARRIED Zanuck when he was a young novelist, destined to become producing giant at 20th Century Fox.

While her husband was a colonel in M. Epstein, head of ad agency New York Times News Service NEW YORK- Mitchell J. Epstein, advertising executive credited with a number of catchy slogans, died Tuesday at Lenox Hill Hospital, two weeks after suffering a stroke. Mr. Epstein, 52, was chairman of Epstein, Raboy Advertising which he cofounded in 1974.

He had previously been with Revlon Benton Bowles, McCann Erickson and J. Walter Thompson advertising agencies. Virginia Fox Zanuck in 1954 Tunisia during World War II, Mrs. Zanuck worked with Betty Grable, Hedy Lamarr, Carol Landis, Sybil Brand, Myrna Loy, Constance Bennett and Kay Francis directing entertainment for sailors heading overseas. Among the survivors are a son, Richard, a producer; and two daughters, Susan Hakim and Darrylin; 12 grandchildren; and 4 greatgrandchildren.

Among the slogans he devised were "Man, Oh Manischewitz" and "When E. Hutton talks, people listen." Howard Sackler in 1969 H. Sackler, wrote 'Great White Hope' NEW YORK (UPI)-Playwright Howard Sackler, who won the 1969 Pulitzer drama prize for "The Great White Hope," has died on the Spanish island of Ibiza, a spokesman said Thursday. He was 52. Jay Harris, his lawyer, said Mr.

Sackler died late Tuesday or early Wednesday of undetermined causes; he was found in his studio Wednesday. He died before finishing a play entitled "Klondike," which was to be performed next summer at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival in Cleveland, Harris said. Mr. Sackler, who was born in Brooklyn in 1929, wrote the screenplays for "Jaws Il" and "Saint Jack" and helped with the screenplay for the original "Jaws."
