'A collector's item at Comiskey A lineup of all-time all-stars whose baseball cards are prized ONE BY ONE, they were introduced. Eighty-five of the greatest players baseball has ever known. This surely was an old-timers' day to end all old-timers' days. The biggest ovation went to Joe DiMaggio, the Yankee Clipper, who hadn't been gone, after all. The reaction to Willie Mays' first Comiskey Park appearance was met with almost as much noise.

After DiMaggio and Mays, the loudest cheers were for Luis Aparicio, the brilliant White Sox shortstop of the '50s and '60s, returning "home" for the first time in almost 10 years. "Mr. Cub," Ernie Banks, and former Sox greats Minnie Minoso and Billy Pierce also received standing ovations. This, after all, was a Chicago baseball crowd. THEN THE GAME began.

There was Brooks Robinson, showing his old skill at '3 third base. And Aparicio, reaching first on a bunt and inspiring the old "Go! Go!" chant from the crowd. monnifAii nrfrtiM going uuer umpire jocko woman, men taxing a cup 01 he le, waier 10 ine mouna 10 aia nis pitcner, Don urysae of the noted wet one. -v, There was Mays, making his basket catch. And "Old Smokehouse," Smoky Burgess, looking much lighter than when he was getting pinch hits for the Sox, lining a bullet to right for a single. And Robin Roberts, still throwing hard. And Hoyt Wilhelm, still throwing soft and becoming visibly upset after surrendering an upper-deck home run to ex-Cub Billy Williams. For a few moments Tuesday, it was all like it used to be.
