Call 222-2222: Obituaries Peter Coffield, 38; actor was native of Wilmette PETER T. 38, an actor and native Wilmette, was recognized professionally for his Shakespearean and romantic roles, but was probably best known for his portrayal of the rapist in the television Rape." He received an Emmy nomination for best actor for his performance in another television movie, "Legacy of Fear." Memorial services for Mr. Coffield will be held at 11 a.m.

Saturday in Jeanne Vail Chapel of Northwestern University, 1870 Sheridan Evanston. He died Saturday in Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City after a long illness. Mr. Coffield attended New 'Trier High School, where he studied theater under Carleton "Red" Burger and Winifred Gahagan, who have been credited with launching many acting careers. He was a protege of Alvina Krause in the Northwestern University School of and Drama.

He then attended the University of Michigan, where he received a master's degree. His first major Broadway roles were in repertory, productions "Macbeth" and "The Misanthrope," with Diana Rigg and Claire Bloom. He starred for two seasons at the Old Globe Shakespeare Festival in San Diego. MR. COFFIELD as Lana Turner's costar in "Forty Carats" in the late 1970s.

It played in the Mill Run Theater, Niles. His TV appearances included roles on "Hart to Hart," "Love Boat" and Peter Coffield in. 1974 "Police Story." His films included "Times Square" and Neil Simon's "Only When I Laugh." The CBS movie "Cry Rape," in which he portrayed the rapist, was made for television, but was later expanded and shown in theaters. His most recent performance was at the Kennedy Center in "The Dining Room." Survivors include his mother, Mary; two brothers, Jim and Michael; and two sisters, Carolyn Barrett and Kitty Courtney. Cohen, 78, founder of Douglas Furniture Corp. SERVICES FOR Milton A. Cohen, 78, a former South Shore resident and founder, and chairman of the board Douglas Furniture will be held Wednesday Phoenix. He died Monday at home in Phoenix, where he had retired 12 years ago. Mr.

Cohen also was active in community affairs and served on the boards of three major Chicago medical institutions. Along with his family, Mr. Cohen purchased a defunct South Side furniture store in the early 1930s. By the end of the decade, the company had switched to manufacturing kitchen furniture. "As a result of World War II and the development of plastics," said his daughter, Diane Feldman, "the company started making kitchen furniture out of Formica instead of wood and expanded rapidly.

It is now one of the largest, if not the largest, manufacturers of kitchen furniture in the world. It has two plants. One is on the Southwest Side of Chicago and the other is in Redondo Beach, Calif. The firm has recently returned to making, wood as well as Formica furniture."
