County. bery in Du Page The fifth suspect, Leslie Thomas, identified as a friend of Cecconi, was arrested Wednesday at her home iu By John O'Brien FIVE PERSONS WERE in custody Thursday on charges of obstructing a nationwide manhunt for two convicts who escaped from the Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet on New Year's Eve. Four of the suspects were arrested at dawn Thursday by Cook County Sheriff's police. They were charged with giving aid to the escapees, who have not been found.

The arrests followed an investigation by the state's attorney's office and members of the Apprehension Squad, a special team from the Illinois Department of Corrections that pursues escapees and parole violators. Of the four, three were identified as friends of escapee Randy Velleff, 27, of Skokie, who was serving a term of 7 to 20 years for armed robbery. The three were identified as Michelle O'Brien and Susan Smith, both 26, of 6934 N. Lakewood and Linda Kristovich, 27, 6306 N. Talman Ave.
