8 Section 3 Chicago Tribune, Friday, August 6, 1982 mk A directory of entertainment and cultural activities in the area this Friday, Saturday and Sunday I I- II II I 1 RECOMMENDATIONS: This symbol Indicates, a high racommendation by our cnttcs. 'UNDER THE PICASSO" Pttfomtance aertee: 5 1 1 A SiSkcl's Flicks Picks k- Arf Iffewnnal aAiiiii.niii.iiinniii m. i A 5 nn, i A guide to first-run films compiled by movie cntlc Gene Slskel. For revivals, or special movies, see) the Arts Books Calendar in Sunday 's Tribune. ANNIE neighborhoods.

A disappointing adaptation of the charming Broadway musical. The movie "Annie'' is a mechanical stage kid; the) new songs aren't memorable; and the general look of the film is depressing. What's good about it? Albert Finney is a terrific Daddy and Ann Reinking is delightful as. his secretary. This film should have been a beautiful present to family audiences.

It isn't. PG, Vi THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS Esqulrs and neighborhoods). Burt Revnolds and Dolly Parton star in a disappointing film of the long-running play about a prudish sheriff who meets his match in a bawdyhouse madam. Too many "Hee-Haw" style jokes and not enough fun-filled scenes with Butt and Dolly. R.

eV2 BLADE RUNNER neighborhoods. Harrison Ford stars as a hatchet man in 2019 Los Angeles assigned to kill a rogue group of humanlike robots who are threatening civilization. An ambitious film that has better set decoration than a cohesive story line. It looks great, but at the end you may be tempted to say, "What was that about?" R. '2 THE CHALLENGE Woods and neighborhoods.

A surprisingly thoughtful martial arts adventure film set in Japan about an American drifter Scott Glenn drawn into a conflict between two brothers who represent the old and new Japan. It's much better than the routine chop-socky karate film. With Toshiro Mifune. Directed by John Frankenheimer. R.

OAS BOOT neighborhoods. A thrilling Nazi U-boat adventure film that makes the point that Hitler used the heroic imagery of being a submariner to send thousands of German troops to their predictable death. R. DINER Biograph. A terrific study of five young men in their 20s growing- up or failing to in Baltimore in 1959.

A personal memoir full of music and good times and a pervasive fear of women. R. DIVA Sandburg, A smashing thriller about a young opera lover who becomes involved with the' Paris underworld and an international assortment of criminals because of two tape cassettes, in French with English subtitles. R. E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL Chicago, Water Tower and neighborhoods.

One of the most appealing films in recent years; the story of a little boy protecting in his closet a lost creature from outer space. A sweet childhood fable of love. Directed' by Steven Spielberg. PG. FIREFOX neighborhoods.

Clint Eastwood stars as an American fighter pilot assigned to steal Russia's greatest weapon, a new supersonic bomber. OVice Eastwood does steal the plane, the movie is a kick. But ft takes more than an hour for him to do it. Bring your alarm clock. You'll need It.

PG. '2 FORCED VENGEANCE State Lake and neighborhoods. A mediocre action flick with martial arts expert Chuck Norris defending a nice family's Hong Kong casino against a bunch of thugs who want to take it over. R. AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN State Lake, Water Tower and neighborhoods.

A terrific love story against a young man's battle to become a Navy jet pilot. Richard Gere is the trainee who meets his match in the form of a drill sergeant Louis Gossett Jr. who knows what an officer should be as well as a young "townie" woman Debra Winger who knows what a gentleman should be. A rare adult love story for a summer filled with juvenile films. R.

NIGHT SHIFT neighborhoods. A tow-grade comedy about a couple of New York City morgue attendants Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton who begin running a string of hookers out of the morgue. Winkler is a bore, but Keaton is a delight in an otherwise mediocre film that would have made a passable half-hour TV show. PG. THE PIRATE MOVIE Water Tower and neighborhoods.

A takeoff on "The Pirates of Penzance," starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins in a musical comedy adventure. PG. To be reviewed. POLTERGEIST neighborhoods. A disappointing horror film about the abduction by ghosts of a child from a suburban home.

The film has a split personality, setting the stage of childhood terrors beautifully, and then losing its way Into a foolish bit of exorcism by a dwarf. PG. ROCKY III neighborhoods. A disappointing se-. quel that has nothing new to say about Rockya character.

Adrian, his wife, is given nothing to do, as the film elects to go with Just another fight featuring Rocky versus a black man. PG. THE SECRET OF NIMH neighborhoods. A good-looking, fully animated tale of rats who have been force-fed human intelligence and war among themselves. A little mouse named Mrs.

Brisby tries to make peace. After a confusing opening, the film settles down to tell a solid adventure story of good versus evil. G. STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OP KHAN neighborhoods. Further and far more entertaining adventures of the Starship Enterprise crew, this time in trouble because Capt.

Kirk left the evil Khan Ricardo Montalban stranded. In a galaxy 15 years ago. The characterizations are strong, and this film may be good enough to make a Trekkie out of a disbeliever. PG. 'A SUMMER LOVERS neighborhoods, A pretty but Inconsequential teen-age love story set in Greece, with a young American girl Chicago's "Holidays 82" dance, mime and sign language performances by hearing impaired youlhs, noon Friday; Daley Canter.

Washington and Dearborn: ween. rrae. jto-szre. Theater "A BLACK New play In a capeNa eong and dance on black He. by Jackie Taylor and Ruktya Waraka, presented by the Brack Eneemble Repertory Company; Organic Cabaret i neater, 3321 n.
