Police were told that two males believed to be Rodriguez and Hernandez followed Joey and Theresa Palmer for several blocks before one of them walked up behind Joey and shot him in the back of the head without saying a word. Investigators said that Joey bore a strong physical resemblance to Charlie. They said Theresa apparently was slain because she was a witness.

DeMille, and then moved to B.P. Schulberg's Preferred Pictures. During this he developed several lighting innovations, including use of automobile headlight lenses on arc lights. He won the first Oscar for cinematography for his work in "Sunrise." For the next three years, he worked on all of Mary Pickford's films. Among his subsequent motion pictures were Charles Chaplin's "Limelight," the 3-D film "Cavalleria Rusticana," and a series of comedies with Sophia Loren.

He continued to work on feature films and on the television series "Broken Ar- 1 row" and "My Friend Flicka," until his retirement in 1972. movie in which he changed Fredric March from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde through use of color filters. Mr.

Struss was born in New York City on Nov. 30, 1886. He began as a photographer, attending Columbia University from 1908 to 1912 and taking over the studio of photographer Clarence H. White in 1914.
