FKTKKSIll'KG, H. a'PII A funeral will held Saturday for Albert Schmid, a Marine machinegunner whote heroics at Guadalcanal during World War 11 inspired the book "1'rule of the Marines." Mr. Schmid died Wednesday at St. Anthony's lloopital. lie was 62.

Mr. Schmid was a sergeant in Aug. 21, 1SM2, when ntore than I.uuu Japa neee attacked the Kiver Tenaru, where about 75 Marines were camp ed. He and two other Marines were at a machinegun when the attack began. In the fighting that raged for five hours, the macmnegunners stopped all but about 15 of the 1,300 Japanese who tried to cross the river.

Mr. Schmid was credited with killing more than 2oo Japanese. "They hit us with everything, including the kitchen sink," Mr. Schmid said in a 1962 interview. Mr.

Schmid received the Navy Cross. John S. Bugas, 74, ex-Ford executive YPSILANTl. Mich. tUPl) John 8.

Bugas, 74, retired Ford Motor Co. vice president and one of Henry Ford H's closest friends and aides, died Thursday in a hospital here. He had undergone heart-bypass surgery last week. Mr. Bugas, who retired in 1968, was once the second-ranking official at the automaker behind the former chairman.

He helped reorganize the company in 1945 when Ford succeeded his grandfather, Henry Ford 1, as chairman. Mr. Bugas joined the automaker in 1944 from his position as head of the Detroit office of the FBI. Mr. Bugas served as vice president for industrial relations from 1945 to 1959.

In 1957, he was appointed vice president for the company's international group and handled the company's import-export operations and relations with its overseas branches.
