Tne Hodg nan County election i appa rently a- far from settlement as ever. Craw lord got away with Ilaun and the At torney General on the original mandam is, hut the matter is to be heard on an amnud ed pet tion on January 6ih. Notwi hstanding the ve--y cold weather for tli.a coumry the Congregatioual S. had a pleasant time and good attendan ce at the hri. tmas eve entertainment Wednes dayevtning.

Music, songs, charades and the like lent a charm to the evening which was enjoyed by all present, Capt. B'Za Blanchard, of Jackson town ship, is one of a family of twelve, of whom seven are living, tbe oldot is 81 years old, tbe youngest living 68, and the average age of the living and dead is 67 years and four months, though one died at 21. We think this weuld be hard to equal. A parly of a dozen horseman, well mount ed, were out from town Christmaa-after the nimble fooled jack rabbit. They had three fine racea, captured on," rabbit, holed another, and the other appeared to be on his way to Dodge City when last seen by the disgusted riders and disappointed hounds.

Our young friend, Will G. Curley, went to Lamed last night, where he will spend the Sabbath with hi uucle, and then goes to Leavenworth, where he will remain for an indefinite time, working at his trade. We an- sorry ta lose him in this coinmuuiry, ere he ha made so many warm friemls. He is an exceptionably good young mam and thegocd wishes of a host of friends will accompany him. Christmas morning we received a of importance, that was mailed for ut at KaiiFai City on the 5th inst.

Twenty days between Kansas City and Kinsley is most too of a good thing. Last week we received one that was eight days in reach ng us from Las Vegas. It may be all riht, but unless better time can be made and less mistakes, we had better return to the "pony cxpn aystem." Why don't the Commissioners build a poor rouse, to that the few who have Hoinethirtuuy know what becomes of our money. The experience of older commu nities shows indisputaby, that the present cystem of indiscriminate out door relief is very demoralizing. Some oi our Edwards County poor always have money enough for whisky and tobacco.

We have one iu par ticular iu mind who hardly ever leaves town sober. We do not desire tkat a single needy person should go cold or hungry, but justice to thoso who pay the taxes requires careful supervision of expenditures, titans we are all to gi on the public. The Methodist and Presbyterian societies joined in arranging a Christmas tree for their Sunday School scholars, which took place at Calkiu's Hall Tuesday night. The weather was intensely cold, but that did not -ter both old an i young from coming, to the full capacity of the Hall. Santa Clau, was there, an old and merry as ever, his beard il anything showed a little more age but tbe ol 1 fellow was all happiness, as be always is when distributing toyfl to the expectant children, and caked colored babies to the old bachelors.

All passed tfT as merry as is marriage bell. That Christmas 1 was a welcome da; was plainly to lie seen in the 'aughin eyes of the sirl, and th i rol'ickitig laughing disposition confined 1 witv in thi boys, only waiting a favorable! moment tocut he. While tho present were not genertdy costly, they still were laa a and a happy ow it was, enjoying as we did, a'l the liberties and pleasantries ol wais noli e.tble among people on the fron tier, prticuUrly the spars' ly settled districts. Aga this present Christmas, we njoyed the htispita ity of rune host Mr, and Mrs Kendall, and as the party gathered t. round the hord, we wr reu inded that many nearly all of tu se present five vears ago were now scattered nearly every poiit of the romp ss.

Among til" lefl besides cur host, who are either too or to leave the untry or have too much gr tto go, were Major Bill and wife, Squire Walker and wife, aid ourself and wile. Time makes wonderful Hnnc'S as well as wreat havoc in the of men. Besides those m-n iened there were present Mr, Bidwell and wife, Mr. Sl aw and wife, Mr. Watson and wife and daughter.

Tne party was a pleasant and agreeable one, and will long be cherished by all present. Mr. and Mrs. Kendall have a happy faculty of entertaining their friends rig'it royally. It is no wonder that they have many warm friends and few enemies.

Christmas was the anniversary of their wedded life, may they have many more, and equally as pleasant sa this one, is our sincere wish. ICINHLEY MARKKT9. Groceries, Vrodnce Cc. lUp irttd by II, L. Stlimitim'ly.
