Paul savings and loan customers to make a deposit to their YES Card account recently at the Jewel Grand Bazaar service desk, 16203 W. Grand Ave. With the new service, customers may make savings deposits, withdraw funds and cash checks at selected Jewel Food Stores. Mkhari A. BHX Elmwood Park, has been named to the dean's student honor list for the School of Related Health Sciences of the University of Health Sciences at the Chicago Medical School.

Bus is a student in radiological sciences. He formerly attended Triton College. To earn a place on the dean's list, he earned a grade-point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. Students in the first through filth grades at River Grove Scbari recently developed their voting skills. Mr.

Savers' fifth grade social studies classes sponsored an election through the cooperation of the Illinois Office of Education. Students voted for their favorite class animal, favorite bird and favorite dog. The idea was to become acquainted with the democratic process and develop voting skills. 330 students voted, with the election judges checking to be sure that each voter was a registered student. Election winners? The deer, blue jay and collie.

Franklin Park third grader Mike Javik, eight years old, has won one of the village Bicentennial Commission's art contests. He received a $35 Savings Bond for bis picture of a "happy birthday cake for America." Mike drew symbols of the U. S. on his red, white and blue cake. Flags, stars, stripes and the Liberty Bell decorate the sides while an eagle and shield crowns the top.

The picture will appear in the program book being printed for the Fourth of July celebration. GRANT BAKER Former local EPHS pupil looks back When Elmwood Park High School holds its graduation exercises this year, one former student will be with the class of '76 in spirit, even though hundreds of miles divide him from his classmates.

Grant Baker will graduate from Catalina High School in Tucson, Ariz. The former resident of north 77th Avenue attended all eight years of elementary school at Elm School and spent three years at Elmwood Park High School. He is currently living with his grandmother. East Leyden girls active in the arts East Leyden graduates Anita odcca and Palrkia Urbanus are members of the Bradley University Chorale in Peoria, which will tour Europe from May 26-June 17, They will be among 33 Bradley students on the chorale's fourth trip to Europe.

Previous trips were made in 19fi8, 1970 and 1973. Paris, Macoti, Avignon and Carcassonne in France, Tossa Stratford, South Hampton and Chart res in England are included in the tour. The chorale will enter international com- petition in Tours, France. Cynthia Malpede, art student at East Leyden High School, has been awarded a national art scholarship valued at She won this in a national competition through her art portfolio which won at the local district level and was forwarded to New York for national judging. Cynthia had a choice of several and colleges and has chosen the American Academy of Art for further study.

Burrow is elected Arl Robert Michalewski, an East Leytten High School student, has won a $909 scholarship to the American Academy of Art through a rortnance competition. He competed against any student wanting to do so in a six-hour Nfholltr drawing contest held at the academy. Robert won second place and the scholarship; he is one of several East Leyden students that have won in the competition In the past. East Leyden social studies teacher Harold was elected vice-president of the Illinois Council for the Social Studies at its spring convention in Pekin recently. Burrow has served on the executive board of the council for the past two years.

The council is made up of 900 history teachers and social sciences teachers in Illinois schools, and draws members from public, private and parochial schools. In keeping with Bicentennial activi- ties and participation in the nation's 200th birthday, social studies teachers from East and West Leyden High Schools have volunteered to devote their time to a speakers' bureau. TV speakers have prepared 19 topics ranging from the American Revolution and Christian Ethics to the Revolutionary War Soldier, Who Really Discovered America? and Colonial Amusements. Speakers include Marcel UwlBsW, Ann Earl Corny, Carl Joe Schneider, HmM Barrows and Al Pwpowlls. That's what's in store for Steve Dawson, East Turkish Leyden junior, who received word front Josephine Owei, sponsor of American Field Serv- travel fee at (he school, (hat he would be going Turkey this summer as an exchange student sponsored by AFS.
