Cal State Fullerton has lured Fishel and catcher Amin David (Mater Dei). Fishel was also drafted by the Yankees on the eighth round. Rival Cal State Long Beach has signed Duggan (Edison) and Coach John Gonsalves' son, Johnny, an infielder from Huntington Beach.

New Chapman Coach Paul Deese has signed an excellent pitcher, Don August of Capistrano Valley and infielder Kurt Knowles (Katella). Tinoco will attend Orange Coast College along with South outfielders Doug Irvine (Ocean View) and Steve Mitchell (Bolsa Grande). two errors. He also stole five bases and made a perfect throw to the plate to get Fishel trying to score in the 12th inning. Dykstra received the most hustling player award.

Past winners include San Diego Padre Tim Flannery (1975) and two-time All-American John Christensen of Cal State Full-erton(1978). The 25 runs scored by the teams broke the game's record of 22 set in 1972 when the North won, 15-7, behind the hitting of Gary Carter and the pitching of Don Aase. And the game was the longest in the history of the series, eclipsing the 13-inning marathon in 1978. Ironically, it was the last time the South had won. It beat the North, Sun, thru Frl.

10 AM-8 PF.1 Saturday 9 AM-8 PM By TOM HAMILTON, Times Staff Writer At 12:58 a.m., nearly five and a half hours after the first pitch, the 14th Orange County All-Star baseball game came to an end Wednesday morning when David Harris doubled home Jeff Pries to give the South a 13-12 victory. Most of the crowd of 1,500 at Glover Stadium was long gone when Harris hit a fastball thrown by North pitcher John Fishel into the gap in left-center for the winning run in one of the wildest games since its inception in 1968. Several records were broken in the marathon game. North catcher David Tinoco became the first player to hit two home runs in the game. The Katella High senior was named the game's outstanding player after helping the North overcome a 7-1 deficit when he entered the game in the fourth inning.

Tinoco hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and added a two-run homer in the eighth for five RBIs. South centerfielder Lenny Dykstra and teammate Tom Duggan had the dubious distinction of playing the entire game. Dykstra, who was drafted on the 13th round by the Mets on Tuesday, had a big night. The Garden Grove speedster reached base, all eight times he came to the plate, collecting five hits, walking once and getting aboard on ts nimlf If on Bh GlsnfiiSdich 86-Pr. 1 E599 Singlt Mall Scotch 750-ml.

I South Coach Rick Hayes of Westminster High is a former member of the Long Beach Nitehawks Softball team, so he's seen his share of extra inning games. Tuesday night's 15-inning affair was nothing new to the veteran coach.

"We've had quite a few longer than this one was," said Hayes afterwards. "But this game was really something. There were about a dozen big league plays defensively. Nobody quit and I think the fans got their money's worth." Fishing fever continues to sweep the Southland, with catches of barracuda, sand bass, bonito and yellowtail improving daily. But anglers who prefer a more solid footing than that provided by a rolling boat deck are also taking advantage of the bonanza, as the largest concentration of fish in 20 years moves into inshore waters. Fishermen at the Federal Breakwater, enclosing Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors, are catching barracuda up to 30 inches in length and even some small white seabass which have to be returned to the water.

(There is a moratorium on white seabass from March 15 through June 15, but even after the season reopens on June 16, the minimum size limit will be 28 inches. Barracuda and bass are also being taken from the rocks along the Palos Verdes Peninsula and in Long Beach Harbor, the Pier area has been producing small barracuda the first time in years they've been seen inside the harbor. Anglers along the rocks near the Queen Mary are taking big kelp bass using artificial bait. Rick Cooper, owner of Simba's Bait and Tackle in Long Beach, said best bass fishing has been on dark colored Scampis a jig with soft rubber-like tails rigged on a lead head) cast parallel to the rocks and retrieved very slowly so it bumps along the bottom. Will go into Rocks "I recommend 20 to 30-pound test line, as the bass will take anything lighter into the rocks the minute they hit," Cooper said.

The same methods are productive at South Laguna and Dana Harbor, where Larry Burson, at the Jig Stop Bait and Tackle Store said kelp bass are plentiful in the shallow waters, being taken from shore and in small boats. Burson returned from Palmas de Cortez in Baja California this week, where he won top honors in the Southcoast Invitational Marlin Tournament. He was highest individual point scorer, a member of the first-place team and landed the largest marlin and dorado in the tourney. A 10 lb. 15 oz.

kelp bass one of the iargest ever recorded was taken off South Laguna by Ken Snyder, who was fishing close to the inshore rocks from his boat. Burson said spotfin croaker are hitting well for surf fishermen at San Onofre Beach, topped by 8-pound 4-ounce, 6-pound 2-ounce and 6-pound spotties beached last week by Ted and Chris Miyake and Joyce Higa of Los Angeles. Doug Cameron of Dana Point took 10 spot-fin, up to 5-pound 4-ounces. Best fishing for spotfin is usually late on the incoming tide, with blood worms, innkeeper worms and mussels the most popular baits. The typical rig is two number six to number two baitholder hooks (depending on bait size) on a 12 inch leader tied to dropper loops above a pyramid or bulldozer sinker that will hold in the sandy bottom.

Fish will normally hit best in the breakers, where they are attracted by the food churned up from the bottom by the waves, but may also hit much closer to shore. The most common mistake made by surf anglers is trying to cast too far off the beach. Corbina fishing has dropped off from the peak of a month ago, but Cooper said there are still good reports from Sunset Beach, and a few are being taken between Cherry Ave. and 72nd Place in Long Beach. At Red's Bait and Tackle in Redondo, J.J.

Rodriguez said barracuda up to 5V4 pounds, lots of bass and bonito up to four pounds are being taken in King Harbor by fishermen in small boats and working from the rocks.
