T7U EatertaiiiLaaent TELEGRAPH NEWS 1 rid Wednesday, November 29, 1995 Sacramento Cable set to add HB02 Dec. 4, free preview Dec. 1-3 I i jr I St3' J. 1 Special to Telegraph-News Sacramento Cable recently announced the launch of IIB02 on cable channel 74. As of Dec.

4, the new channel will give all current HBO subscribers the ability to choose programming from two HBO channels at no additional cost. The primary HBO will remain on cable channel 61. To launch the new service Sacramento Cable is making a free advance screening of HBO and HB02 available from Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 3 to all of its customers.

Customers may receive the free preview either by turning their converter box to cable channel 74, or by turning their cable-ready television (without a converter) to cable channel 66. "We want all of our customers to have the ability to preview this exciting, new addition to our service," said Wayne Vowell, Vice President and General Manager of Sacramento Cable. "We have been asking our customers what they want to see, and HB02 fulfills many of those needs, namely more choice and flexibility in viewing times," said Vowell. The two HBO channels share a single pool of programming, but are scheduled independently to offer subscribers two different genres of HBO choices at any given time. For example, at 8 p.m.

on a Saturday, the primary HBO channel might air a dramatic movie, such as "Interview with a Vampire," while HB02 features family programming, like "Little Women." Then at 10 p.m., HBO might air World Championship Boxing, while HB02 features a romantic comedy. Adding HB02 nearly doubles the number of HBO shows that the network can air at the same lime. In prime-time alone HBO-HB02 subscribers can choose from 106 titles per month 57 more than HBO alone. According to a recent HBO study based on Nielsen research in 1,700 households, 70 percent of television subscribers felt that the multichannel offering made cable a better value. "We're committed to doing all we can to keep increasing the value of a Sacramento Cable subscription, and adding HB02 is just a fraction of what is to come in the very near future," said Vowell.

The addition of HB02 comes on the heals of Sacramento Cable's Nov. 22 launch of ESPN2. Sacramento Cable is in the process of a multi-million dollar system rebuild that will be completed by the end of 1996. The redesigned system will allow an explosion of programming choices for its customers. Sacramento Cable serves approximately 231,000 customers in Sacramento County.

Sigourney Weaver (left) as criminal psychologist Helen Hudson and Holly Hunter as police detective M.J. Monahan in Warner suspense-thriller, "Copycat." The film is now playing at a number of local theaters including UA Sunrise and Downtown Plaza. 'Copycat' is delightfully complex thriller ENTERTAINMENT CALENDAR words, "Copycat" is a good movie. Solving the mystery is a complex, intriguing puzzle, filled with wild, but coherent plot twists. As always, Weaver is marvelous; and this is the best work she's done to date.

She's a cinch for a "Best Actress" nomination, and Holly Hunter, a cinch for "Best Supporting," steals a good many scenes. Go see this one. You won't regret a second of the time. "Copycat" Rated R. "Copycat" is a Warner Bros.New Regency film, directed by John Amiel and produced by Arnon Milchan and Mark Tarlov.

"Copycat" stars Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter, Dermot Mulroney, Will Patton, Harry Connick William McNa-mara, John Rothman and J.E. Freeman. The film is now playing locally at UA Downtown Plaza, UA Sunrise Mall and UA Market Square. Running time: 110 minutes. Weaver) is giving an address on her favorite subject, her specialty: serial killers.

She makes the point that serial murder is, for these psychos, a substitute for sex; they are turned on by what they do, and feel no remorse or guilt, only tremendous excitement over the next target. Leaving the lecture, she is cornered by a man who has been stalking her, and attacked. Fast-forward a year; Helen is now a house-bound agoraphobic, an abuser of alcohol and prescription drugs whose only social contacts are text exchanges on the InterNet. She's a complete loss, destroyed by her inability to deal with her attack. Her isolation is penetrated by a police team who are trying to track a serial killer in the San Francisco area.

The cops are M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and Reuben (Der-mot Mulroney), and they want the help of the world's greatest expert on serial killers. Her hesitation overcome, Helen joins the investigation team, where her first contribution is the realization that the killer is a "copycat," a student of serial killers who emulates the crimes of others. An egotistic mimic, he is duplicating the crimes of the Hillside Strangler, Jeffrey Dahmer, the Boston Strangler, and so on. The problem is trying to figure out who he will copy next, and where.

Worst of all, he has identified Helen on the InterNet, and is playing "tease" games with her via anonymous electronic mail. "Copycat" is a wonderfully made movie; there are no" stupid plot elements, no ham-handed coincidences, no lucky breaks, no discontinuities in plot, logic, or characterization. The police are not stupid, and neither is the Copycat. There are no tedious games played with the villain's identity. "Copycat" has a clean, coherent, rewarding storyline.

In other By GORDON SHUMWAY Correspondent Ever since "Silence of the Lambs," every producer with a serial criminal script has been dreaming of making the kind of award-nomination sweep that put Foster, Hopkins, and bloodthirsty psychos at the forefront of American consciousness. Most of these efforts have been dismal, disorganized failures. Now, with "Copycat," we've been given a new standard of reference. "Copycat" is a wonderful mixture of careful plotting, topnotch acting, and a roller-coaster ride of increasing tension that sneaks up on you. In a genre where the easy way out is to splash gore and body parts around, "Copycat" gives us a delightfully complex mystery-suspense movie that will probably set box-office records and do well come Oscar time.

'College Football '96' is best yet from EA Sports fp2 3 96 3 By NAMIO NOMA Correspondent Disappointed that Ohio State lost to Michigan? Can't stand to see Notre Dame lose game after game? Then do something about it with College Football USA '96 from Electronic Arts.

EA Sports, known as the leader in sports video games, has another winner with the latest installment of their college football line. They've outdone only their previous games in their new col 1 44 X. I -0 Nv sA SPORTS and can affect passing the passing and kicking games, as well as turnovers in snow and rain. New for '96 is injuries to all the players. Linemen as well as your star quarterback can go down lame, all at random.

At the same time, you might have to make a key substitution for your ailing running back or tired defensive lineman to win the game. But the most important change of the new game is the inclusion of more penalties facemasking, holding, roughing the passer or kicker and even offensive pass interference. And watch out! Unlike past games, where you could get away with as many late hits and cheap shots" as possible, College '96 won't tolerate dirty play! A electronic rcf pops up in the corner and tosses the yellow hankie for personal fouls and late hits. The only drawback I found to College Football '96 was the number of plays there weren't enough! You have eight or nine standard formations, but only 12 or so plays for each, with some having less. And some formations only have one or two plays, with each one "flipped" to run to the right and left very limited playcalling compared to other games.

Perhaps worst was the fact that you can't flip your formation it stays on the same side of the field regardless of your hash position. But overall, College Football USA '96 is yet another strong game from the sports experts at EA Sports. computer. For the record, Nebraska lost to Penn State and Florida defeated Florida State in the semifinals before Florida (played by me, of course) crunched Penn State in the championship! The tournament can also expand for up to 16 teams as well -what it should be in real life. But enough about the fringe aspects of College '96 let's talk game play.

Like EA Sports football games of the past few years, game play is smooth and player control is easy. Each Sega button does something different: jump high, dive, burst forward, making controlling your player and making special moves a breeze. On the option, a key play for many of the teams' playbooks, the play is easily executed you first control the quarterback, then simply hit when you want to pitch the ball. And the passing game, always a problem in football games, is fairly easy in College '96. You can have the quarterback automatically select and throw to a receiver, who then automatically catches the ball.

Or, if you're a serious ball player, you can control all of this yourself the only way you can make the quarterback scramble as well. Regardless, the passing option is at maximum a two-button play, instead of complex passing schemes employed by other games. Once play begins, a variety of other factors figure into the final outcome. Weather, as always, is included Cold Shot at Sutter Street Cold Shot will appear at Folsom's Sutter Street Saloon on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Pictured (left to right) are Richard Urbino, Jeff Hefner, Rene Martucci and Eric Stitt.

There is a $4 cover charge. TenUnoc lege game, adding more new features to an already stacked game. Although this year's version doesn't carry Bill Walsh's "stamp of approval" like the 1995 version, the game is actually better without the football guru's picture on the cover. The programmers at EA Sports have captured college football's essence in the 1996 edition, from the pictures of the rowdy fans to the cheerleaders to the coaches "chewing butt" after a bad play! And the plays unique to college football are all here the wide receiver screen, the wishbone offense, and especially the option. The option can be a killer if you have a mobile quarterback and a quick running back you must get to the outside to execute the option right.

But not just the plays make College Football USA '96 unique. Every one of the 108 Division IA NCAA college teams is included in the game, from lowly Cal to top-ranked Nebraska. And each is individually rated by each position Nebraska has a dual-threat quarterback, Florida State has a quarterback with a shotgun for an arm, and so on. Although their names aren't included in the game, as that would be a violation of NCAA rules, the game does feature realistic numbers, at least for the skill positions. You can tell Eddie George from Ohio State or Danny Wue-rffcl from Florida, just by their numbers.

And regardless of the team you pick, the goal is to get to a bowl one of four included on College 96. And just like real life, you have to endure the annoying corporate sponsor names the FedEx Orange Bowl, the Nokia Sugar Bowl, along with the traditional Rose and Fiesta Bowls. But unlike real life, you can throw out that stupid bowl coalition and determine the national championship like it should be with a tournament. On College '96, you have four teams slug it out for the national championship, determined by the American Stage RB.om.0 Charter Tour Busses Call 929-8833 Charter Tour Busses SILVER LEGACY, Reno Mon.
