4 Pill V-Wed., Sept 3, 1980 Cos Angeles States JODY JACOBS An Evening for Danish Honors Mrs. John C. Tyler, philanthropist and widow of the insurance tycoon, will become a Dame of the Sovereign Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem of Denmark Thursday during an evening filled with the pomp and ceremony you'd expect of an order that first appeared in Denmark in 1164 during the reign of King Valdemar I. Also known, in the interest of brevity, as the Danish Order of St John, the "Christian and non-political" society is dedicated to alleviating poverty and illness and furthering spiritual values. The evening will get under way with an early reception at the home of Mrs. Tyler. The formal ceremonies take place at the Westwood United Methodist Church where Grand Chancellor Prince Peter of Greece and Denmark will conduct Alice Tyler's investiture. The prince will also award the Commander Cross of Merit to Gen. of the Army Omar N. Bradley and to Texas surgeon Dr. Michael E. DeBakey and the Dame Cross of Merit to Mrs. Robert O'Meara and Mrs. Don Fedderson, co-founders of International Orphans and Children's Village. When all that's over and done with, everyone the knights of the order in their white tie and tails, the dames in their formal gowns and all other guests in black tie and festive dresses will proceed to dinner in the Beverly Wilshire's Grand Trianon. Television superstar Barbara Walters and Tarzan producer Sy Weintraub were holding hands as they progressed down the buffet line in La Costa's dining room last week. Also at the Southern California spa and recreational spot were Texas' Bunker Hunt, record -movie mogul Berry Gordy (son Barry was out on the tennis courts) and Bruce McNall who deals in Greek antiquities. The Foundation for New American Music, which includes among its members Bill Dana, Larry Gelbart, Arte Johnson, Henry Mancini, Ed McMahon and Carl Reiner, is hosting a "festive garden musicale and buffet" for The Orchestra at the home of Margo and Irwin Winkler. Some of The Orchestra's big boosters, like Jerry Perenchio and Norman Lear (they're referred to as "very special friends"), Donna and Danny Arnold, Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards, Marcia and Neil Diamond, Mrs. Jerry Weintraub, Debbie and Bernie Brillstein, have been invited. The Social Scramble: English real estate biggie Michael Eland and his French-born wife Jane gave a little dinner party at the Bistro, and among their guests were Cyd Charisse of the gorgeous gams, Tony Martin, Mar-tine Hecht and Lawrence Pratt. Delia and Erich Koenig, who spend their life between homes here, in Mexico City and Acapulco, were at the Bistro Garden with their house guest Eleanor Lambert, the New York fashion maven, Mrs. Jules Stein, Eva (Gabor) and Frank Jameson, Ginny and Hank Mancini and Luis Estevez. Cary Grant and Barbara Harris and Veronique and Gregory Peck are off to Macao for the opening of the race track there. En route they'll stop off in Hong Kong where Sir Run Run Shaw, the movie mogul, will entertain them. Theatrical producer Gladys Rackmil whose "Frankly Loesser" musical revue opens at the Westwood Playhouse Monday night and man about the city Henry Ber-ger closed Trader Vic's Ship's Room Monday night. Hardly a soul was around when they tiptoed their way to the parking lot. The San Francisco Opera season opens Friday night with "Samson and Delilah." But before the curtain goes up and the singing commences, the Modern Art Council of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is hosting a pre-opera supper party in the museum. The sponsors are Almaden Vineyards, Shreve & Co. and Trader Vic's. The champagne corks start popping at 5 p.m. en punto. Franco Tollardo is acting as host for Thursday's salute to the Thalian's President's Club at the newly remodeled Nazareno Gabrielli boutique on Beverly Hills' famed Rodeo Drive. Besides cocktails and buffet, continuous music and entertainment, there will also be a first showing of Nazareno Gabrielli's new fall collection of Italian ready to wear.
