This extension offers travelers three new viewpoints with wide-open vistas. Red Rock Canyon consists of 62,000 acres of federally owned land with a variety of usual and unusual forms of desert vegetation and wildlife, including bighorn sheep and wild burros; wind-sculpted sandstone outcroppings; several picnicking and outdoor camping sites; and the region's most striking creation, the Red Rock Escarpment, a mass of rainbow -colored pinnacles, and boulders jutting from the canyon floor.

To get there, take West Charleston Boulevard from Interstate-15 16 miles west to the beginning of the scenic loop road. Before making the turn onto the Scenic Road, you may want to continue about 1V6 miles to the Dedication Point where signs show the names and elevations of the various points of interest. If you choose to go here first, you must return to the Scenic Road turn off for the 13-mile loop trip.
