Wanking Wpmaifb World By Ercel Lynn Eaton Area winners In Queen City Caf Show rtiursday, June 7.1973 Union-Liberty Journal Page 5 The cookbook people have met their Waterloo A galloping Julia Meta Given Betty Crocker Child I am not. In fact, anyone who has eaten at my house will attest (if they are still among the living) to that fact. I mean when your kid would rather eat in the school lunchroom or at the burger palace, 'it says SOMETHING about your cooking. And my husband comes home for dinner about one day a week--even then with a pained, "what will she do to my stomach tonight?" expression on his face. So why, I ask you, do these book people keep sending me ads for these fancy cookbooks? If they miss one day, they'll send two the next.

Great, large pages of standing rib roasts, surrounded with shining carrots, fluffy potatoes with cheese garnish and bouquets of flowers sitting nearby greet me when I open the envelopes. They promise with astonding confidence that I will be able to make souffles, mousses, pies, tarts, and meringue puffs--with one hand tied. "Follow a master's personal, proven steps to success," they yell at me, offering recipes for crepes, brioches and Irish soda bread. They want to teach me how to roast, braise, broil, stir-fry, batter coat, knead, unshrink pie shells, poach, and stuff a spectacular hindquarter of lamb. Me? I have the urge to write to them every time and say: "Dear cookbook people--you know not to whom you wrote!" But they keep trying--they send me a famous chef's personal recipes for his "outstanding dishes." There are specialty books, like "party foods," the "world of baking" volumes, Oriental, Mexican, and "down home" cooking.

Then someone comes up with a "Best of them AH" cookbook. And I haven't even mastered the worst yet. "Win applause," they tell me, "with your cream sauce," and then, if I don't win applause they can take me, they swear, on a "cooking adventure to top any adventure I've ever had." Somehow, I find myself questioning that statement. And why is it they always have such beautiful cookware to display these marvelous recipes? There never is a plain pot--it has to be gleaming copper, or decorated enamel, or shining silver. None of these recipe book people ever cook in ordinary pots.

I don't care what they say, tonight we're having hot dogs. And I'm going to cook them in the oven in one of those glamorous aluminum pans left over from the last gourmet frozen pie I served. So there! By MARY ARTHUR Area cat-fanciers had a big time as the Queen City Cat Club Inc. held its fourth annual cat show at the National Guard Armory in Cincinnati. Butler County names dotted the list of those showing cats and winning prizes, and young people did just about as well as older cat lovers when it came to capturing ribbons.

Beth McCartney, 12, student at Wilson Junior High School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burl McCartney, 203 Elvin took 12 ribbons with her American Blue breed cat "Beth's Princess Blue." The ribbon total boosted the cat over the required six winner ribbons needed to be ranked as champion in the national Cat Fanciers Association. Mrs. Betty Beatson, 4075 Hammond took two awards in the best i a a a i category, with a pair of seven-month-old Blue Points.

The two kittens also took third and fourth place in the show's longhair" specialty, all-breed division. A West Chester teenager, Nancy Davis, 17, 7930 West i Road, claimed an award for best one-year-old Novice Persian with her cat, "Hit The Jackpot." Miss Davis will graduate from Lakota High School this week. The girl's mother, Nancy Davis also did her share of winning, taking first in class three times with "Hannibal Hayes," a red champion Persian. Mrs. Davis also took second best novice in the s.hpw in all-breed with "01- Ray Lady Peachy," of Willow Glen Cattery.

Willow Glen's "Golden Girl" also won second in her class twice and second in best of color in cream Persians twice. Mr. and Mrs. Than Johnson, 995 Haverhill Drive, Hamilton, were active during the days before the show. Johnson, board member of the club, was showroom coordinator, and was engaged in seeing that all activities for the show moved smoothly.

Mrs. Johnson was in charge of decorations in keeping for the holiday weekend. More than 300 cats were entered from all over the United States and Canada. Cats of every breed, competed in the event for top honors. Past and present GS leaders honored at Camp Timberhill ANN LEE (center), field director of the Ft.
