The name was announced by Charles T. Brumback, president and chief operating officer of Chicago Tribune at a ceremony in the lobby of Tribune Tower, 435 N. Michigan Av. He said Freedom Center was chosen from among more than 2,000 suggestions made by employes of The Tribune in a contest this year. The winning entry was submitted by Casey Bukro, 46, who joined the company as a reporter in 1961 and has been environment editor since 1970.

"FREEDOM CENTER is an appropriate name for a production facility designed to print newspapers," Brumback said during the ceremony. country is unique in history for recognizing that a free and active press is one of the fundamental necessities for a democratic society." The policemen voted earlier in the week to reject the city council's offer of a $200-a-year raise, and 110 of the 122 officers struck late Wednesday.
