A horse belonging to Mr. Brown, and a cow belonging to 2vlr. J. C. Kerr, of Ilollcnbcrg township, were killed last week by being lariated by the neck.

This makes three accidents of this nature we have recorded in two weeks and yet we presume that there are many the county who still follow this dangerous practice of lariating by the neck. sixty-eight prairie chickens between 1 two and six o'clock. Caught iktiie Act, The individual spoken of a few weeks since, about peeping into windows at nights, was around to see us last Saturday afternoon but denied in toto the charges we made. The same evening a citizen of the town discovered a letter drop out of his pocket containing an insulting proposition to a respectable 3-oung and concluded to watch the chap and found him prowling around the jail. He was disarmed of a revolver ml permitted to go his way in peace with the promise to stop his obnoxious practice in future.

Mind your owx Business. Our affable friend Hoiiciiberg doubts our ability to do job work, and saj-s "if Martin can't do job work, he should not attempt to cheat 7iis citizens by getting job work and sending it off." If Mr. Ilollenberg will take the trouble to coma over some day we will run oft a few copies of the premium li tin his presence aud pay his board and whis ky bill while in Washington. Other wise if he will attend to the menial in his cmplo3r and conduct the business of the Enterprise in his own interests, we will see that oh'rs is attended to. It is but a week since a job of the simplest kind of job work printing letter heads was feiil from the to the job office of the 3fa.s7iall County Neil's.

We doubt if Mr. tlol-h nb erg at the time he wrote about "Martin combing others" that such' a job had ever passed through the Oiiice. We refer to a job of letter heads for the county treasurer of Washington county and which was done at the News office in Maiwsville. We propose to do ail kinds of job work on the shortest notice and most reasonable terms including pamphlets and will. allow the.

incredulous to watch us perform work. t3S'. KISES 'i'O Z2l.Ara. Editoi: Republican: In 30111 issue of July 11th is an article entitled "Shoe ting AlTraj-," which with the facts as therein stated do me groat injustice. In duty to n-selfand with vour permission I will state the facts as they exist and leave the world to judge as to my guilt.

In the first place the statement of 3 0111 author that -with hie reside an aged and crippled brother is false. My aged mother docs live with me and also upon 1113 charitN and indulgence imposes an able bodied half brother by the name of Phinas Whittey the person with whom the difficulty occurred. Ke lived with me, not as your author stated, "attending to the duties and labors of the farm and assisting Mrs. Wade, with her la but simply upon my- kind in dulgence. On.

the memorable Sunday evening as your author would have it I concluded to hoe my corn and asked my wife to assist. Now this is utterly anil'-', wholly untrue. Although of no particular religious turn of mind, I have a due i'pnrjiT. rd for the Sabbath; and it is not in3' habit or custom to desecrate that hob' da3' to labors of an3' kind other than', what is absolutely neccssaiy. The facts are these: On the da3 previous I was severely injured 13' a horse running awaj with a plow and dragging me some distance.

Feeling badly I asked my.wife-to assist me in pulling some weeds in the garden for the hogs; She refused. I used no abusive nor threatening language toward her. Did sov something but not b3 wa3 of threat or abuse. Now this said Phinas came rusting in the room threatening and cursing me, at the same time striking at me. The struck him with was my left hand.

I had it to do in self-defense. I only acted on the defensive, protecting myself in my own house. After he arose I started away whereupon lie shot at nie and then left an opposite direction. The cries of mother did call in some of the neighbors, and at her request I hitched up my team and took nry wife and the children to one of the neighbors'. These are the facts in the case, which future developments will confirm.

And as between nrfself and vour author as to the truthfulness of our statement! am read' to stand 0 i Yours respcctfulh'. II. Wade. Geirer Threshing Machine Compaq's. John Hughes et al.
