Winter Bird Banding Demonstration Set Manchester Northeastern Ecology club will hold a winter bird banding demonstration Saturday form 9 to 11 a.m.

at the Oerwood Nature center. The program will begin with a lecture on the federal banding project, to be followed by a tour of the center which is located between Emigsville and Manchester. Spring Grove The annual community World Day of Prayer service will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in St. Zion United Church of Christ. St. Paul's Lutheran church will join with Mt.

Zion congregation in sponsoring the service. The planning committee from Mt. Zion includes Mrs. Paul N. Yost, Mrs.

Larry Mum-mert and Mrs. Ralph B. Zeiders. Democratic Club Meets Jack Zellers, chairman; Attorney Jack Barton and Mrs. Dorothea Bentzel, committee members, of the York County Democratic organization, were guests of the Young Women's Democratic club at a recent meeting.

It was announced that the York county traveling registrars will sit at the Friendship Hose company hall March 25 to register new voters. Twenty persons attended the session. Next meeting will be held Wednesday, March 12, at 8:30 p.m. A change in the regular meeting time of 7:30 p.m. has been made because of the Lenten services.

Auxiliary Holds Meeting A memorial service for Mrs. Joseph M. Stauffer and Mrs. Henry L. Zeigler who died during the past year was held by the Ladies' auxiliary of Friendship Hose company at a recent meeting.

The service was conducted by the chaplain, Mrs. Florence K. Hartman. Mrs. Olive R.

f6-th-4t Council Awards Contracts For 5 Garbage Trucks Hanover A contract to furnish garbage collection equipment, including five new trucks and containers, was awarded by borough council last night to L. and M. Pontiae GMC, Carlisle street, at the low bid of $104,826.60, plus trade-in of the present four garbage trucks. Other bidders were: Sheets Brothers, Carlisle street, $112,948.48, and Snyder Auto Service company, York, $109,970.04, also plus trade-ins. A contract to furnish a diesei power backhoe was awarded to Saltz-giver Garage, Hanover RD 2, at the low bid of $9,550.

Other bidders were: Sheets Brothers, Groft Tractor company, Mechanics-burg, D. and M. Sease, Gettysburg, L. B. Smith company, Camp Hill, William B.

Sheets, Hanover, $10,334.23, and ShauU Equipment company, Le-moyne, $12,158.10. Another bid from Clair D. Worley, York, for $9,475 was rejected because of variances in specifications. Eighteen members and three leaders of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 709, Trinity United Church of Christ, attended the session to observe council in action. Drifting Truck Hits Car Betty Lou SouJlaird, 35, of Hanover RD 4, was uninjured when a dump truck loaded with lime coasted backwards down a hill on Callisle street at Stock street and crashed into the front of her car Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Borough police said the truck, owned by William F. Mehring, KeyMar, and operated by Carroll L. Fox, 37, of Union Bridge, RD 1, had stopped for a traffic light and then coasted backwards when a universal joint broke in the driveshaft. Smith, 281 South street, Tuesday, a son. Arthur P. McKeever, 77, Lewisberry, Dies Lewisberry Arthur P. McKeever, this place died Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Harrisburg hospital at the age of 77 after a lengthy illness.

The husband of the late Mrs. Maude McKeever, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Bertha Conley, New Cumberland; Arthur and Robert McKeever, both of Harrisburg; David McKeever, who lives in Alaska; Elmer McKeever, Enola; Daniel McKeever, of Arizona, and Mrs. Mary Kilbid, Phi'adelphda; 17 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Campbell, and two brothers, William and Wesley McKeever, all of Hagersiown, Md.

A funeral service wil1 be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Nelson E. Urich Funeral home, Lewisberry. Burial will take place in Shoop's Frederick C. Muller, 79.

Near New Oxford Is Claimed By Death New Oxford Frederick C. Muller, 79, husband of Mrs. Christine Brandt Muller, New Oxford RD 1, died yesterday at 1:50 a.m. at Hanover General hospital, where he was a patient, five days. He retired in 1958 from Baltimore and Ohio railroad, where he was employed as a mechanic.

A native of Baltimore, he was a son of the late Wilhelm and Margaret Kausse Muller, and was a member of Lohr's Memorial United Methodist church, Hanover. A sister, Mrs. Archie Hopkins, Baltimore, and nieces and nephews survive in addition to his wife. Rev. Robert H.

Stolte, Mr. Muller's pastor, will officiate at funeral services tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Pane-baker Funeral home, 311 Broadway, Hanover. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery, Hanover. Hanover Borough council last night awarded a contract to Swam Electric, this place, for modernization of traffic signals at seven intersections in town. The intersections and the firm's quotations for the work at each location are as follows: Carlisle street and Clearview road, Frederick street and Centennial avenue, Baltimore and Middle streets, $292; Carlisle and Stock streets, Carlisle street and Elm avenue, Carlisle street and Park avenue, Carlisle street and Dart drive, $3,218. The project also includes installation of approximately 5,500 lineal feet of wire to interconnect signals with the system in police headquarters at a unit price of 24.8 cents per foot. All prices were low bids when the quotations were opened recently by council. Bourough manager Joseph B.

O'Brien was instructed to advertise for bids for two per minute fire pumpers for the fire department. Bids are to be opened Wednesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. A public hearing was scheduled to be held Wednesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers on proposed vacating of an 18-foot wide alley west of and paraTel with North Perm street, extending northwardly from Washington avenue about 267 feet thence turning eastwardly to Perm street, a distance of about 115 feet. Ella V. Bankert Mrs. E'la V. Bankert, 85, formerly of 133 McAllister street, died Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. at Suburban hospital, Bethesda, Md.

She had been a guest at a Bethesda convalescent home several years prior to her admission to the hospital. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Lydia Bubb Donsen. Her husband, Hilbert F. Bankert, died in 1942. Surviving are a son, R.

Sanderson Jacobs, pastor of Hanover Independant Fundamental church, was reader at this season's initial Lenten fellowship prayer breakfast for ministers and laymen yesterday at Lohr's Memorial Methodist church. Prayer was offered by William E. Bittinger, and the session wais in charge of Robert E. Slagle. A total of 58 persons attended.

Twenty-eight teenagers attended this season's initial youth Lenten service at Hanover YWCA yesterday morning. Wolf-Gerald P. Smeltzer, 43, a teacher at Northeastern Junior High school and Assembly of God church minister, died yesterday at 1:10 a.m. at the York hospital, where he had been admitted Tuesday evening. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr.

Smeltzer, husband of Mrs. Ilene Gentzler Smeltzer, had resided, here for the past seven years and taught English and history at Northeastern Junior High school. His home was at 167 South Third street. He was a native of Windsor township, a graduate of Red Lion High school in the class of 1943 and of Eastern Bible school in 1954 and served three years in the Navy. He organized an Assembly of God church in Edwards, N.Y., and was pastor there for four years.

He had recently been a memher of the Assembly of God church in Manchester and had been serving as its supply minister. Mr. Smeltzer, attended St. Lawrence university and Roberts Wes-leyan college in Rochester, N. to earn his bachelor of arts degree and received his master's degree from Temple university.

In recent years he had compiled, written and published "Canals Along The Susquehanna River" and had done work for the Historical Society of York County. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Herring-ton, and a grandson, Scott A1 an Herrington, Mt. Wolf; his mother, Mns. Myrtle Stump, Windsor, and his father, A.

Elwood Smeltzer, 310 North West street, York. Rev. Robert H. Shipp, pastor of the Windsor Assembly of God church, and Rev. C.

Eugene Bell, secretary-treasurer of the Eastern District Assembly of God, will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Assembly of God church in Manchester. Interment will take place in Windsor cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Diehl Funeral home. TONIGHT Sister M.
