The decline in corn was the sharpest. Selling by commission houses uncovered stop loss orders, and the deferred deliveries scored heaviest losses.

Wheat followed corn downward. More moisture over the winter wheat section, and lack of indications of government buying were factors in the decline. Soybeans were independently strong. Oats were stubborn. Reports of government purchases of rolled oats gave that grain a firm er tone.

At the finish wheat was 1 to lower than Monday's close, May S2.45-44J. Corn was 1 cent to 3J lower, May $2.26. Prices were best in the forenoon when commodities bulged. The latter finally stumbled and the stock division faltered here and there. While gains of frac tions to a point or so were well distributed near the close, numerous losers remained. Dealings quickened at intervals and, notwithstanding slowdowns, volume of around 800,000 shares was among the largest since mid-February. Bonds were mixed with some rails improving.
