The AM station, 970 on the dial, is the second completed if FATE IS THE HUNTER A 20th Century-Fox picture in Cinemascope; produced by Aaron Rosenberg; directed by Ralph Nelson; screen play by Harold Medford from the Ernest K. An unusual form of drama, Readers Theater is a cross between reading aloud and acting. In it, the participants act as interpreters for the authors whose works they are reading.

They take pieces of literature and try to make them come alive for the audience. As a general rule, the program done in this manner is not simply a group of poems, stories and essays read haphazardly but is organized around some theme or train of thought. The people on stage are narrators as well as readers and must take the responsibility for keeping up a (See HUNTER, Page 13) 7 SOUTHWEST REPUBLIC CORPORATE v- X-J 08VEST 19'' STUDIOS 0FF1 A XV- Dillon Bert Freed Films dealing with aviation disaster no doubt cause con siderable dismay among com' mercial airlines and perhaps some added apprehension among sktttery passengers (of the type Shelley Berman describes in one of his best-known comedy routines), but such stories have long seemed to hold a strong fascination for moviemakers even before "The High and the Mighty" proved an enormously popular attraction several years ago. Latest in this line is "Fate Is the Hunter" a less gripping but still tautly told tale by Ernest K. Gann, who also turned out "The High and the Mighty." The first of KHFI's changes will come about Sunday when it replaces station KASE call letters and all as an AM air service. Contractor W. T. The airline's flight operations director (Glenn Ford) and Civil Air Board investigators immedi ately launch an extensive probe to determine the cause of the disaster.

Bits and pieces of evidence uncovered in the course of the investigation all seem to point to personal negligence on the part of the pilot (Rod Taylor), a breezy type with a seemingly carefree approach to his exacting job. Ford, however, knew the late pilot from their World War II experiences together, and he alone refuses to accept pilot error as the reason behind the crash. Trying to clear his old friend's name and also dig up the real reason why the plane came down Ford starts his own investigation, painstakingly checking back through the pi lot's past and friends and, finally, duplicating the ill-fated flight with himself at the controls. The story develops rather slowly, and its impact is lessened considerably by occasional interjection of some almost hokey details. But with its relatively taut direction and able performances to firm up many of the soft spots and with its "inside" detail about the business of flying to add interest the picture suc a Sat.

JOHN BUSTIN SAN MARCOS A fine example of an interesting and yet little-recognized type of theater is on display this weekend at Southwest Texas State College. "An Evening With Mark Twain," a Readers' Theater presentation of the College Theater, began Thursday and will run through Saturday.

The program, for it cannot in reality be called a play, consists of ex amples of works by America's famous satirist, Mark Twain.
