National issues were -left to the Denver convention and the platform adopt- deair solely with state Questions, attacking the administration of various Republican state officers and endorsing especially the initiative and referendum in state and local legislation and the taxation of franchises. Johnson's Fight Against Harmon. Mayor Tom Johnson of Cleveland, after having met defeat in the opening session Tuesday night, renewed his fight against Judson Harmon for control of the convention, but he was again worsted in one of the most bitter and exciting contests ever witnessed in an Ohio convention. Alrb-mgh his victorious opponents, follo-n it of State Executive Chairman HaiTey Garber of Greenville, held out to him an olive branch in the tender of two places on the state ticket, Johnson declined to exter Into any agreement and strove to prevent the placing of the names of any of bis followers on the ticket. Denver. Dramatic scenes attended the nom- nation or ernor of Judson Harmon, -whose home delegation was divided for and against Mm. He was opposed by Atlee Pomerene of Canton, C. Sandles of Ottawa and Isaac R. Sherwood jof.

Toledo. Mayor Jotuison nominated Pomerene as a roan who stood upon every plank in the platform, who has always voted for Bryan and "not like some who in 1896 glorified in the downfall of Bryan." Alfred Cohen ol Cincinnati, who presented Harmon's name, said his candidate was broad enough to carry the state for himself and Bryan and declared that Johnson himself was not consistent in the support of Bryan. During the first roll call there was almost a riot among the Hamilton county (Cincinnati) delegation, re- suiting from the ill-feeling engendered by John Molloy's seconding the nomination of Pomerene In behalf of a minority of the delegation from Harmon's home county. Molloy was hissed by some of his fellow-delegates and the delegation became so wrought up while a poll was taken that the police were called to prevent hostilities. Overtures For Harmony.

Owing to the delay in taking the poll Hamilton county was the last to cast its Harmon's nomination hung In the balance and Hamilton county could have made it certain on the first ballot, but her 93 votes were divided, for Harmon, for Pomerene and 1 for Sandles, making the total for Harmon 463 or 11 fewer than necessary. Pomerene received 381 votes, Sandles 97 and Sherwood 4. Congressman Sherwood, whow name had been presented by a man not a delegate, and despite the protests of the Lucas county (Toledo) delegation, withdrew his name, and on the second ballot Harmon received 512 votes, Pomerene 381 and Sandles 79. Harmon was nominated. During a recess following the nomination of the candidate for governor, opponents of Johnson made overtures for a harmony agreement but in vain, and when the convention reconvened the entire list of counties was called without drawing forth any name for lieutenant governor.

When the name of James M. Williams of Cuyahoga county was later presented Mayor Johnson -withdrew It, but his authority to do so was questioned and Williams' name went befcre the convention. David Rockwell of Kent, a bitter political opponent of Mayor Johnson, was nominated for lieutenant governor, however, over Williams and M. S. Chase of Marlon on the first ballot Notwithstanding the refusal of Mayor Johnson to accept a harmony agreement early in the afternoon as the session of the convention dragged out the tension relaxed and the nominations for attorney general and treasurer ol state were thrown to can- didates known to be favored by tht Cleveland mayor, and" when it to the selection of delegates-at-larg to the national convention Mayoi Johnson was chosen as one of the "big four" by acclamation.

There was a fight over the endorsement of a candidate for United States senator. The name of former Gover nor James E. Campbell was the only one presented. A delegate attempted to present the name of M. Ingalls of Cincinnati, but he ruled out ol order.

On roll call 647 votes were cast for Campbell. There were 253 DR. A. W. CHASE'S CATARRH POWDER is sent direct to diiwuad parts by Improved Blower.
